Great film...uplifting and realistic
I went to this film, kind of expecting to see the same character in Ellen Page that we saw in Juno. But she is really a gifted actor & has the most expressive face I've ever seen. Whether she is acting joyful or sad or confused, you see it in her eyes and her quivering lips and it's quite effective. Daniel Stern and Marcia Gay Harden were really strong & realistic in supporting roles as he parents.
A real view inside the world of women's roller derby and also done really well. We got to see the toughness they need, the violence of the sport without over doing the gore and blood. The characters of her teammates were well fleshed out and felt like real people.
Drew Barrymore (who directed the film....great job, btw), was kind of a ditzy girl, so her character was kind of weird, but the rest of the ladies were awesome.
All in all, a very enjoyable movie- different than ordinary fare and really took us away for an hour and a half. That's the mark of a great film. Loved it.
