The interviews were a wonderful surprise. I really enjoyed listening to the stories behind the movie from the people who made the movie. All of the actors who appeared in the interviews still look amazing. So nice that they can still bask in the greatness of this film.

They don't make classics like this anymore!

It's hard to imagine anyone making "West Side Story" today. It's a modern retelling of "Romeo and Juliet," a blend of musical theatre and bold cinematic style, with dynamic cinematography and razor sharp editing. The dances and musical movement are choreographed for the camera and aren't distorted by Cuisinart editing, as they likely would be for today's audiences. Thank heaven you can see the dancers' entire bodies as they move! Some of the dialogue and acting are a little dated, but much of it holds up surprisingly well for a 50-year-old movie, and the performances of Rita Moreno and George Chakiris are as impressive as they ever were. (Both received Academy Awards.) The picture and sound for this new release are spectacular, allowing the great Leonard Bernstein score envelope the audience.

I really enjoyed seeing this classic in 70mm. Being shown at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and having George Chakiris telling the large audience about his experiences and the filming of this wonderful film was the frosting on the cake.

A VERY SPECIAL WEST SIDE STORY VIEWING

I have seen West Side Story AT LEAST 100 times...but i just HAD to go to this screening because George Chakiris was scheduled to be there. It was Wonderful to see Mr. Chakiris after enjoying his performance in WSS all these years. He was charming, and I appreciate his taking the time to come to the screening. The movie? Of course it was terrific all over again...but on the big screen--nothing compares to that experience! The best thing of all was the sound quality...which was pointed out to us by a Cinemateque rep...it was just FANTASTIC!! Every note was beautifully augmented. Altogether, it was a night to remember!
