    Watchmen

    Short review: the best part of the movie was the ride home afterwards.

    This movie makes no sense unless you've read the book. In fact, it assumes that you have read the book because it makes no attempt to introduce the characters in any sort of comprehensible fashion. A fatal flaw!

    It's also got a lot of graphic violence, much of which is included for shock value and does nothing to advance the story.

    Didn't like it. Don't recommend it.

    Watching the Watchmen

    This is the movie comic book fans have been waiting for for decades, and not because it adapts one of the best graphic novels ever written but because it is the comic book movie that treats it's source material as worth of a full-on adaptation.

    And besides all that, it is a darn good film. I've read a number of critical reviews of it that pan it in terms that make me wonder what the heck theater they were watching it in. They didn't see the movie I saw.

    It's probably one of the five best comics related movies ever, and thirty years from now, I believe it will be studied in film school as a case study in how to do an adaptation, whatever the source.

    The acting is good, helped by some inspired casting. The direction and camera work are top drawer and the art direction probably could not be better. Special effects are very convincing. I've seen it three times on different size screens and it works at different sizes.
