Tremendous and awesome - beautiful and sad
For a movie that lasts two-and-a-half hours, you'd think it might be boring - especially if every character spoke a language you didn't understand. But not this movie. There's more action than in any fantasy, but there's also much to be learned about the Seediq people, along with the other native tribes in Taiwan's history.
But this isn't a documentary - it's a story of survival and the ultimate battle that occurs in nearly every historic culture where those who come to settle and "civilize" find that the people who they wish to help really don't need or appreciate it.
My wife, who is Taiwanese, and I watched It twice on two separate days. She loved the absolute beautiful scenery and excellent cinematography; I loved the action, but being part Creek Native American, could relate to what my ancestors must have experienced at the hands of their masters, being removed from their lands.
Whatever your race, I promise that you will appreciate this film!
