Empowerment
This is Keri Russell's movie, and she shines despite material that seemed a bit awkward to me. It is a simple movie which addresses things like abusive, over-bearing men, love, and fidelity, and we desperately hope for the waitress's well-being. At times, the movie lovingly observes the complexity of human behavior (as with Andy Griffith's character, and the doctor's infidelity), but at other times, it seems to rely on caricatures. Despite my complaints, in the end, I found the movie quite moving. I would especially recommend it to women, especially those susceptible to abusive relationships.
