    "empty sex"

    by washed_up

    How disappointing.
I want to say that it's my fault, that my expectations were too high or that I wasn't in the mood for a...somewhat romantic-comedyish book -on- tape with an overcooked plot line that (Inserts ******* scene here)? But realistically, the whole thing was just kind of tiresome. The only thing more annoying than the narrator's inflection (why was there a narrator??) was the fact that Penelope Cruz won an oscar... for playing Penelope Cruz.

    Amazing.

I'm not a fan of Woody Allen myself but I've gotta say he hit home with this one.
The musical score in the background consists mostly of Andres Segovia, the beautiful Spanish guitarist. The music compliments the film in a massive way. Allen even has a guitarist play one of Segovia's songs in a critical scene between Bardem and Hall where Hall falls in love with the guitar and eventually for the Don Juan, Bardem. During the film you'll be asking yourself..."Where's Penelope?"...don't worry, she'll arrive halfway through the film and when she does, you won't see the last of her. Her perfomance is excellent -- perfect role for her -- obviously, she won the best supporting actress award for her skills.

    Pleasant

That's my way of saying the movie was ehh... so-so. The story is nothing new, but the scenery is breathtaking; truly a vacation for the eyes. I left the movie feeling like I'd actually been to Spain :)

    Vicky, Cristina Barcelona

I took two friends of mine who I knew would love it and I was right. We had a great time. woody allen is among the greatest film makers of all time. The film was funny, sexy, smart and extreamly entertaining.

    italy schmitaly

i've seen funnier woody movies but many that develop just like this one. some smile- not-laugh early moments followed by a stirred soup of characters ending with an "oh well". at the end of this one, for me the story was about all the angst we go through to make decisions about the love in our lives only to either make no decision or end up not making the change we had toyed with after deciding we are either unable or unwise or afraid. italy was a beautiful background but of no particular consequence to the story. men and women can fight, fall in and out of love, fool themselves and each other equally well anywhere in the world.
