I literally just got back from the theater and I have to say that it was amazing! Very few things were changed from the book to the screen which was really pleasing. The cast did an amazing job portraying their characters! The relationship between Dimitri and Rose was really well scripted and it just made me fangirl so hard during the movie. "Rose. Rose. My Rose." All of you who saw the movie know what I'm talking about ;) I am eagerly waiting for there to be an announcement claiming that a sequel is in the works!
Okay, I'm off to read the series again!
Seriously though..... GO WATCH THE MOVIE!

This movie was much better than I thought it would be. I took my 14 year old daughter and she loved it. Lots of action scenes all the way through.

My Dad and I saw this movie on opening day and it was terrific! Even my Dad enjoyed it. I've read the book and I thought that the movie was right on track with it. This movie has action, humor, sexiness, smarts, an excellent soundtrack, and (of course) some blood sucking. What more could you ask for?
Amazon.com already has this movie available for pre-order. I'm headed there now. I can't wait to watch it again. I definitely recommend this movie.

I really enjoyed this move. I have been waiting for it to come out since the rights were first bought. I read all of the books in the series and loved them, but I was little apprehensive about the movie after seeing some of the previews. The movie follows along with the book pretty well; there were some minor changes but that is to be expected. Like I said, the changes were minor and all of the important stuff remained the same. The cast was great. I wasn't sure about who they cast as Dimitri or Lissa, but both grew on me and I came to love them both. Zoey Deutch was fantastic as Rose and Dominic Sherwood as Christian was awesome. The chemistry between the cast members was real and just great. The movie was awesome and I would love to see it a second time.

I really did want to like this movie since I have all of the books and enjoyed them, but it's just an example of how to screw up a potentially great film with shockingly lazy film-making. From poor casting choices to wholesale plot changes (for no good reason), endless exposition and terrible editing; this movie does almost nothing to live up to the book. If you've never read the book then perhaps you might enjoy this more but I honestly doubt it.
I do feel the movie could have been much better if only given a better editing job; at 1Hr 44min it's fairly short by modern standards and I seriously doubt anybody would be complaining if it were 30 minutes longer (provided those 30 minutes were put to good use in removing the need for the endless exposition). Some of the actors grew on me a little as things progressed but there were some very poor casting choices and poor acting as a consequence.
It isn't irredeemably bad but it could have been so much better. Overall disappointing.
