I saw this week "Righteous Kill", "The Women" and "Burn before reading "or is it "Burn after reading"...whatever, they were all a waste of time compared to this SOUL FEEDING work of art. What can I say, Kathy Bates is her usual magnificent self and the movie just plain feels good without being cheesy. Do yourself a favor and see it.

1980s Night-time Soap

The Family that Preys would have been good enough for TV but is not good enough for a feature film. Kathy Bates plays the poor man's JR Ewing or Alexis Carrington Colby, only with an uneven Southern accent. It was a joy to see Saana Lathan but for a better role check out season 4 of Nip/Tuck. And always a pleasure to see Robin Givens though here she just plays the tough-as-nails in-charge character she's so good at. And I'm not even going to mention Alfre Woodard, you know she's good. So what do we have here? A clumsily put together TV plot with the looks of a TV movie about an affair and a mother-son fight for the right to own the business. What was Mr. Perry trying to accomplish here? I do not know. And what the heck was that road trip? It was a distracting side storyline suited for a better treatment on a better movie.

Since I love most of the Tyler Perry movies, I knew that this movie would be quite enjoyable. It lived up to my expectations and thensome! This movie will make you laugh, cry, inspire you and teaches a lesson about the importance of family, friends and the golden rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
