Should ‘Breaking Dawn’ Add 3D?

By: Erik Davis on July 13, 2010 at 4:22PM Comments (80)

So now that Eclipse has made a killing at the box office, and we know The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be split into two movies, we have to move on to the obligatory question: Will ‘Breaking Dawn’ be shot in 3D? One clue as to whether Summit Entertainment is even considering has arrived courtesy of MTV, who spoke to the man directing Drive Angry 3D for Summit.

'Eclipse'On 3D and how Summit is utilizing it, Drive Angry 3D director Patrick Lussier said, “"I think Summit has been discovering, as they've been seeing the 3-D material and the ease we've been able to work with it, is that it's an incredibly viable format to work in." That said, I have a feeling the big decision will come down to fan reaction on blogs like this one. Richard Fay, the man in charge of distribution for Summit, even admitted as much when asked which films will go 3D and which won’t. He notes, “A big factor is the perception of our audience. What are their feelings going to be? If it lends itself to being a better movie because of 3-D, then that's the technology we'll use."

Is Breaking Dawn the sort of film that belongs in 3D, though? Do any of the Twilight films belong in 3D? To me, these films don’t scream 3D. They’re more about character relationships and the occasional vampire fight than they are about wowing us with visuals. Of course, adding 3D to a film like Breaking Dawn would probably guarantee it some massive box office records, but hopefully Summit will look past that and listen to what the fans have to say first.

So … what do you fans have to say? With execs at Summit probably reading your comments, what do you think about Breaking Dawn going 3D? Would you see it in 3D, or do you think it adds nothing to the final product?

I really do not think Breaking Dawn needs 3D. I love the whole series and I am a TwiHardGrandma. I would like to add however, that some of you guys are giving away too much info from the Book. Although I don't know why, there are Still SOME people who have not read the books. Soooo, zip those lips. Make them read the book first, stop revealing so much.

No to 3D for part 1 but if you get enough good reviews for 3D and are considering it i would say only for Part 2 but I rather not. I love the books and the movies asthey have been and no one cares if it is 3D we just can't wait for the movie to be released.

I think doing "Breaking Dawn" in 3D would be a bad choice. I doesn't make much sense.

Leave 3D OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT. The movies, their story lines, and sequences have gotten stronger with each picture. 3D is NOT needed to make these final two films wonderful.

I really love the Twilight series and I am SO looking forward to Breaking Dawn. However, 3D just isn't necessary to 'enhance' the movie going experience with this particular set of movies. It's a nice thought cause I love 3D. But, just not necessary. It wouldn't add anything to the movie's storyline.

I think Breaking Dawn should not be made in 3D theres not really much you can do with it since Breaking Dawn is mostly all drama anyway. What Summit should have done is make Eclipse in 3D it has way more action scenes then Breaking Dawn. All well too late for that...

I love the concept of the 3D, but not sure if there is enough of material to actually work for this movie, Avatar is the only movie in my opinion that worth of watching in 3D

So many movies now adays are in 3D, they do at the movie theater I go to have the option of 2D. But to be quite honest, I don't like 3D movies. So, I would have to say no to 3D. I like the regular 2D movies. Technology now adays I think is just getting out of hand.

No way should there be 3D. I mean, what would they put in 3D? There is not point, there are no fight scenes that would be eye-catching in 3D. Please do not put Breaking Dawn in 3D!!!! There is absolutely no need to!

I Love the Twilight Saga, But 3D, honestly? No. Twilight is not the kind of film you could put into 3D, wait I take that back, if studios wanted to do the movies in 3D they should of done the first three. Because there is no way that you can do breaking dawn in 3D. Well you could but why? There are just too many things in breaking dawn that I won't enjoy seeing in 3D. If you have read breaking dawn, then you know what I'm talking about!!!!

I can see 3D movies for the kids, cartoons and such...but this is not a kids movie, a tween and up movie I just dont see the point of it. Another reason that I have little use for 3D movies is the glasses, since I already wear corrective glasses, they do not fit comfortably and in truth it adds very little to the experience in my opinion as an avid movie goer.
