A gripping tale of survival and a wonderfully made movie
Not only is the story horrifying and inspiring, but the movie is beautiful, alternating lovely scenery with the unflinching images of brutal conditions for the slaves living in those places. It's also quite well crafted: the outcome isn't in doubt if you have read anything about the movie, but the heart of the story is in the journey and how it changes--and doesn't change--Soloman.
Wonderful acting and writing and filmmaking here. The subject is uncomfortable and you might want to avoid this film for that reason, but if you like good filmmaking, you shouldn't.
