I generally find that remakes are never as good as the original. That's true in this case, but True Grit is still a decent flick. It has a grimmer tone than the John Wayne version, and feels more realistic. Don't go in expecting to see John Wayne - go in expecting to see a good Western movie.

but I just thought True Grit was so-so, and my son didn't like it. Despite the outstanding cast and excellent cinematography, the film never drew me in enough to care about the characters or what happened to them. The characters faced many dangers and challenges, but there was no suspense around the action. I was disappointed because of the build-up around the film and the actors involved in it.

Call me an old man but for anyone that grew up on the 1969 version this remake is only sllightly amusing. Take your kids if you wish, but at least go but the original and let them see which version is best. The latest version is a nice popcorn entertainment but no Oscar material. The actiing is not good. In fact after watching the original, the new version sort of gives me a sick feeling, sort of like, trying to not throw up in your mouth a little.

Well being sort of a traditionalist and a great fan of the original movie, I was luke warm over the event. The acting was real good but the movie had a hurried feel to it, like giddy up this is taking too long! Technically the photography, sound etc. was good, and the the way the script was mostly the original with some differences in the sequencing was different as well. More character developement could have been done on the part of Tom Chaney, Josh Brolin was too short on the screen. Barry Pepper was too short as well. All in all though if you are bored and want to see something and are at the matinee price times, sure go ahead. Otherwise wait for it to rent or satillite etc.

Excellent! Lives up to the billing... Very well played by Jeff Bridges... Witty and Gritty in the right balance... Really enjoyed it and would recommend it as a must see this holiday season.
