    True Grit

    I generally find that remakes are never as good as the original. That's true in this case, but True Grit is still a decent flick. It has a grimmer tone than the John Wayne version, and feels more realistic. Don't go in expecting to see John Wayne - go in expecting to see a good Western movie.

    Most westerns nowadays try too hard to be beautiful instead of entertaining. True Grit does both. The gorgeous cinematography plays a close second fiddle to the wonderful performances of Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and (she deserved the Oscar) Haylee Stanfield. My favorite western since Unforgiven, True Grit does something most remakes have trouble doing... Being better than the original.
