    Finally! 3D done right.

This review is less of the movie, and more of the 3D. Top Gun is the 1986 classic that we all know, with its tense aerial combat and high-strung cold war era military. The content has not changed. What is new with this presentation is the outstanding 3D. This is, hands down, the best 3D I have seen in any movie, natively filmed or converted. The 3D is so superb that would strongly encourage people to see this release of Top Gun even if they do not like the Top Gun in order to see 3D done right. There are so many little details that the 3D conversions artists at Legend 3D did so well that you almost don't notice them. That is, they have none of the jagged little incongruent details that are present in so many 3D films and force you to constantly remember you are watching an effect. My best example of this is the glass canopies of the F-14s. The canopy is a separate layer from the people inside the cockpit, as it is in real life. I urge you to see this movie and see 3D done right.

I've seen them all - this is the best!

I saw this movie on it's premiere day years ago, in 70mm, in VHS, in DVD, in Blu-Ray and in Digital Copy. Seeing this in IMAX 3D was incredible!! The fighter pilot scenes and the amazing technology implemented by now deceased Tony Scott is truly amazing!! Make sure you grab a limited edition poster if you can...usually after the movie or at customer service desks. The "peel back" advertisement for the upcoming Blu-Ray 3D/Digital Copy Release has a little hidden something for collectors of "Top Gun" memoriabilia. "Great Balls of Fire"!

Brilliant Conversion of a Great Movie.

This is a limited-time release that you must go see if you can. Top Gun was already a great movie that showed off the F-14 in its heyday. The digital and 3D conversion makes it an entirely new movie worth seeing.

    Top Notch

I took my man last night to Top Gun at Imax. It's my guys all time favorite movie. I've only seen bit's and pieces of the movie over the years. I don't know why I've never seen the entire movie?!?

For those of you that are like ehh. I'll give you two great reasons why you should see this in the theater.

One: The movie it's self was really very good. I can see why it's a classic.

Two: Watching it at the Imax in 3d is just plain awesome.

Bonus: Seeing Tom C. as a charming young pilot was entertaining.

Thanks Imax that was worth my extended drive time just to see this movie!

This alltime favorite of ours was even more special in the IMAX 3D experience!!!! Why the studio hasn't chosen to advertise this special event is beyond me as the total experience was one that we will never forget...so much so we are planning on seeing it again tonigh!

    Back with a Vengeance

Top Gun is back on the big screen, this time in a digitally enhanced format and crispier imaging that will leave attendees breathless. Once again Tom Cruise reprises the role that put him on the margue of Hollywood greatness as the hot headed pilot Maverick. Featuring adrenaline packed aerial acrobatics and jaw dropping dog fitghts, this film is definitely worth the price of admission. Only on limited release, Top Gun still rules the skies in terms of cinematography and acting which is sorely missed in today's Hollywood films.

    A Welcomed Return

    by 4Rest

This movie was great to see in IMAX! As usual, most movies that were not designed for 3D do not gain from this addition. So, I say it was great to see it with IMAX but don't expect anything special with the 3D.

    3D was positive

I've seen the old movie several times, but I still enjoyed the movie again with the 3D added.
The flying parts were especially good. The film still appeared grainy.

    great remake

Really enjoyed the Imax version for clairity, but was disapointed in the lack of sub bass, was hoping the jet take offs would shake you out of your seat.

Fantastic Fighter Flic - Lousy IMAX Glasses

For the film and experience, Top Gun on IMAX 3D would score a perfect 10. Unfortunately, the flimsy, filthy and painful orange 3D glasses provided by the theater significantly dampened my viewing enjoyment.

Top Gun is one of my favorite movies of all time. So I jumped at the opportunity to experience Top Gun in IMAX 3D. On the giant screen, the dogfights and carrier operations were larger than life and made my heart pound more than ever! The plot remains, of course, as shallow and easily digestible as it has ever been.

Unlike other 3D theaters and passive 3D TVs, which use circular polarization, IMAX 3D uses linear polarization. Unfortunately, this means that there are no options to purchase your own pair of anatomically correct and optically clean 3D glasses for IMAX 3D. That's a real travesty, because I would gladly pay twice as much to see Top Gun again with a comfortable and clean pair of 3D glasses.

Great on the big screen, amazing audio, 3D not so much

    by Mr_M

? Fun to see in the theatre again after first seeing Top Gun as a kid.

? Even having seen the movie dozens of times, seeing it again on the big screen revealed more details that I hadn't noticed before.

? Audio quality excellent, overshadows the 3D visuals.

? Not that I expected it to be but the 3D not that impressive at all. Would have been happy with just the big screen and the excellent audio.

? Worth seeing if TG one of your favorites!

    Worth it for any fan

    by ACN380

Being born in 1986, the dream of being able to see the very first movie I ever saw in my life in theaters was an impossible dream. After seeing it last night with low expectations of 3d, I was very pleasantly suprised. The movie's 3d isn't kitschy as it doesn't overdo it on the 3d effects. The effects add a good amount of depth, but nowhere in the amount you'd feel of jet's and missles flying right into your face. The best way to describe it is that it didn't distract from the movie itself, but it definetely helped enhance it. THe sound was just amazing, having only seen and heard the movie all my life with 2 front speakers of a tv, being able to hear the jets roar and scream from all around you during the scenes was amazing. The music and sound effects are just rediculously amazing at theater levels. It was also just amazing to have comradere with a crowd of people that are there to see it because they love the movie so much rather than seeing it with people that never seen it before

    Awesomer than the original

I feel the need. The need for 3D. Wow, I never thought I could love this 80's classic more than I already did, but last night's IMAX 3D experience took it to a whole new level. It was like I was seeing for for the first time. There were so many things I had never noticed and things that just exploded on the screen. If you are like me and my wife and love this film, you have to go see it while it's in IMAX.

    top gun

I've seen a great many 3d movies and this was probably the poorest example. I'm guessing the age of the movie may have had something to do with it. The Imax sound was awesome, but the 3d effect left a lot to be desired. That aside, it's still a great movie. Harkens back to the day when Tom Cruise was a real actor.
