Thor: The Dark World

While hitting some themes which might otherwise be worn, Thor pulls from comic book lore dating back far enough to have a valid claim to those themes. It pulls off well the mix of fantasy and superhero, mixing the more-or-less Norse mythology of Thor with modern day world. It is refreshing not to have the setting in America, as the upcoming Marvel installment of Captain America will likely give us plenty of cityscapes there. This movie has a good blend of fresh comedy, drama and plot twists, finally giving Loki the opportunity to live up to his legacy as a trickster. The cinematography is artistic, and the credits provide beautiful showcase of artwork of the actor's portraits. The plot is enticing and the comedy is fresh. A "must go" for any level of comic fans, a "go" for casual movie goers.

Thor: The Dark World was awesome! The cinematography was outstanding, set design was spectacular, acting superb and the entire story line was excellent. Marval did it again and I will be seeing the movie again, and again, and again. Typically when a comic movie goes dark it loses its comedic appeal but this one didn't... it stayed true to the comic feel while going beyond epic. Special kudos to Tom Hiddleston for keeping his character Loki fresh. It's rare when an actor can keep his audience wanting more especially when they are playing the villain; it just doesn't happen but now with the "surprise ending" I'm find myself sitting on the edge of my sit for the next installment. It was just that good!

Great fun. Complicated story lines but can follow. Great special effects. Acting was great, with the weekest link being Natalie Portman. Effects were great, though had to blow up too many structures. And great fun in comedy relief parts. All in all, a fun and extremely well done fantasy movie. Like Star Wars with better acting.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first THOR movie with Hemsworth and Portman. However, THOR: THE DARK WORLD bored me out of my mind. The first half wasn't too bad. Starting in the middle, the story got way overly complicated and didn't make any sense at all. Three-Quarters of the way through the movie I was checking my watch trying to tell how much longer it had to run. I was happy I needed to use the rest room as it gave me a chance to leave the theatre for a while. Chris Hemsworth was trying so hard to affect a deep voice that his words regularly got lost in his throat and were hard to understand many times. Natalie Portman had little to do and what she did do didn't make sense. Tom Hiddleston is a terrific presence as Loki and it's a pleasure to see him in what scenes he does. The ending made no sense whatever. I won't give details but there were so many unjustified actions and confusing inconsistencies that I couldn't wait for it to be over.
