Rob Reiner, with his cast of gifted comedians dead-pan their way through this often absurd pseudo documentary of an over-the-hill rock band. They are pitch perfect in capturing the often babbling and always pompous "stars" as they trace the waning stage of a once popular group. The individual portrayals of the drug adled performers is funny to distraction as they attempt give meaning and ration to their less than briliant conduct. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer cut their teeth in a realm that they created and now own (Best of Show, A mighty Wind, etc.).

Rob Reiner's rollicking first feature film THIS IS SPINAL TAP is a sheer joy from start to finish! Utterly quotable, thoroughly memorable, this movie stands on its own as a true original breakthrough in cinematic parody as Reiner himself dons the guise of detached interviewer who has taken on the challenge of recording the ups and downs of the recent American tour of "one of Britain's Loudest Bands" Spinal Tap. Here we get to see Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, and Christopher Guest ( who would ultimately take over as a mock-Meister supreme himself with giddy entries like WAITING FOR GUFFMAN and BEST IN SHOW ) totally embody these cockney rockers and improvise hysterically with one miraculously funny bit after another. Each scene is LOADED to the gills with in-jokes as well as in-your-face hilarity. It's anyone's guess what their funniest moment(s) may be, but if you have never witnessed true comedy inspiration - SEE THIS MOVIE - DO NOT DELAY! Honestly one of the best!
