This movie was absolutely hilarious. It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud during a movie and with this....I was dying. Tears in my eyes. So many great one liners and many that I'm sure I missed from laughing so hard. I'll have to see it again. If you're 'around that age' and have kids that age......see it. The cast was great! Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are hilarious and so are the children in the film - Leslie's children in real life. Al Brooks is great too.
Not understanding the 'vanilla' reviews from some - lighten up people! Not every family is the Cleavers - for goodness sake. Welcome to dysfunctional family 2012. LOVED IT.

OMG! This movie was so bad I wanted to walk out after the first 15 minutes. I did not but my spiderman senses were right. This is 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Watching this family distruct itself on screen was painful. Are familes in today's society this bad we have to create a moive so the rest of us can suffer through this madness?
My thoughts: How could the director / writer place his wife and two kids in this movie? This was an unbeliveable casting error. If this is how his family is at home it's not good for his kids.
There was so much potential to be a good moive but it failed on each major story theme. I know the critics love this guy (Judd) but I also know they passed on the movie. I broke my rule and saw the movie after reading the reviews - never again will I overrule the critics.
The title of the movie should be "This is a Depressing Movie" vs. This is 40.
I'm adding Judd to my No Watch List.

My husband and I just left the theater. It was a horrible movie. Screaming at your wife and daughters that they should "have a ****" is not funny. Yes, there were funny parts.....but 10% was funny. 50% was slow, 30% was disgusting, and 10 was something too odd for words.

At least they actually used the child talent here. Had they not, this one would have been much worse. Still, this play is hardly the family comedic romp they're selling in the trailers. Is it a bad film? No. Is it worth the price of a movie seat today? That's a judgment call best left to the one that's paying. Given that particular choice again, knowing what I know now, I'd have waited for the DVD, cable or stream.

I really like the actors in this movie but the premise misses the mark. And what makes the director think that bathroom humor appeals to an adult audience?I have a 2nd grade grandson, a 1st grade grandson and a 4 yr old grandson who think that bathroom humor is hilarious. Fortunately they will outgrow it, why hasn't the director and the actors done the same. Here is an idea, play up to an audience not down to an audience.
