It was funny and I need a good laugh - but also has a serious edge which I also enjoyed. Stay for the end credits for an extra chuckle.

All 40ish Married Couples Should See This Movie!

My wife and I laughed at and connected with this movie. Shows the beauty of marriage - all the highs, lows, fears, foibles and each emotion in between. The acting is good, the setups realistic, and the laughs spaced well. I never felt the movie dragged - good flow for over two hours. I believe we will watch this movie every time we are having a rough patch :)

This is 40: This is Horrible

"This is 40" has a great cast and lots of one-liners and after 20, then 30, then 40 minutes of no plot development, we had a growing sens of unease that this movie was going nowhere slowly (2:20 of slow). And that is exactly what it did until we walked out. As for friends who went with us but sat elsewhere in the theatre, they were grumpy we didn't tell them we were walking out as they would have joined us – and demanded their money back. Bottom line: Boring. Plotless. Joyless. Director Apatow edited the January Vanity Fair issue (which is brilliant). This is not brilliant. This is an awkward comedy that misses its mark the way a lot of SNL comedies are "amusing" but not actually funny.

THIS FILM IS AN INSULT TO ALL 40-YEAR-OLD INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER AND THEIR CHILDREN. AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some films are not worthy of the mental gymnastics to critique, or discuss; cutting to the chase, this is a prime example of directorship/writing (Judd Apatow) gone rogue! I remember 40; it’s been awhile but having limber retentive skills I can reminisce about the “times of yesteryear”; when marriage, children, merited respect, civility and a modicum of maturity, or at least the pretence of adulthood... In this horrific scenario “Debbie” (Leslie Mann) and “Pete” (Paul Rudd) are children from Hades, cloaked in grown- up facades; their marriage is a sham; existing on primal instincts. Their daughters, “Sadie” (Maude Apatow) and “Charlotte” (Iris Aptow) listen to their foul-mouthed fights and naturally mimic the cacophony of vituperative verbalization... If “This is 40”, it’s terrifying! ONE STAR! ***For full review please visit peneflix(dot)com!!!

Need to cool the F bomb and the C word! Otherwise I had a great time - and laughed all the way through it. Paul Rudd continues to be a highlight in all his films. Love the twinkle in his eyes! Leslie Mann gives a believable performance - she's having a breakdown over turning 40. Wish there had been more of Melissa McCarhty. What a great comedic talent. Don't see this if you have a problem with crude. Do go if you need a laugh. I got my money's worth.
