Worth seeing--very funny, light on plot, but who cares?

Well worth seeing. Very funny consistently. Long movie, but there were not too many slow moments--there were always enough good laughs spaced into the one section where pacing got a bit slow, but in general the audience got a good gut workout from the many keel-over laughs this provided.

The kids (Mann & Apatow's) were especially good--they proved they could act (especially the older girl) in both comedic and drama scenes.

The plot...well, not much to say, the plot is the vehicle to tote the humor around with.

Some of the humor goes into dark and possibly awkward areas, and some more sensitive folks may find some if it disgusting, but if you are now--or have been--in your 40's, you'll get it and laugh.

Be sure to stay for the ending credits--Melissa McCarthy tears it up in the bloopers.

    What was that???

    by dgblock

What was this? I wanted to walk out after 30 minutes but felt that for $10, maybe this movie would get better. Nope. It was disjointed and all over the place. Sure, there were funny moments but that probably took up maybe 10 minutes of this 2+ hour movie.

Pass on -- This is 40

There were very few funny parts in this movie. For the most part it was just a couple fighting non stop. If I want to see that I can watch my neighbors for free

    good movie!

It was a very funny movie to go to, very vulgar and a lot of crude humor. If you're fine with this, than it's a must go to movie! laughed my head off!

    THIS IS 40

    by Corrier

THIS MOVIE WAS FANTASTIC. IT RELATES TO SO MUCH ABOUT MARRIED LIFE, FAMILY, AND COVERS ALL THE THOUGHTS AND PHASES PEOPLE GO THROUGH IN LIFE. IT WAS FUNNY, IT WAS REALISTIC, AND IT WAS VERY TOUCHING.

THE MOVIE IS LONG, OVER 2 HOURS, SO IT'S WELL WORTH THE MONEY TO SEE, SO BE PREPARED TO SIT FOR AWHILE.

IT'S A MUST SEE, AND IT'S A GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR ANYONE WHO IS MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, NO MATTER WHAT AGE THEY ARE.

I LOVED IT, MY HUSBAND LOVED IT, AND I'M SURE EVERYONE WILL.

Melissa McCarthy's bit part, was the best part!

    by Eyk3

I thought I would LOVE it as these two characters were my favorite part of Knocked UP....but it was just ok. I laughed some, but overall just okay. The yelling and whining got a little tiresome. Melissa McCarthy stole the show as always in her few scenes and the outtakes of her at the end had me laughing so hard I was in tears. Charlyne Yi cracked me up a couple times too.

Also, I don't know if I blinked and missed it, but I didn't see the part where Paul Rudd hikes up his shorts, messes up his hair and does a little jig behind the daugher when she's skyping (or whatever)...that cracked me up in the previews!

    This is 40

    by Patrum

By the end of this movie, this couple of new 40s when from mildly likeable to loathesome, self-indulgent and boring. This is partly the result of of the fact that the movie is REALLY REALLY LONG and nothing happens--It's just one grown up tantrum after another. As much as I usually like Apatow movies (and Paul Rudd) this attempt to be, I guess, poignant was not good. The only bright spot was Albert Brooks as Rudd's character's unrepentantly flawed father.

    I'm 40 and THIS IS NOT 40!

My husband and I just left the theater. It was a horrible movie. Screaming at your wife and daughters that they should "have a ****" is not funny. Yes, there were funny parts.....but 10% was funny. 50% was slow, 30% was disgusting, and 10 was something too odd for words.

This Is A Lousy Movie and not funny

This movie was a huge disappointment. Knowing what I know now about this movie I wouldn't even waste a $1.00 renting it from Redbox when it comes out on dvd. I wanted to walk out about 30 minutes in, but for some reason stayed thinking it may just get better. While it had a few funny moments those were few and far between. Besides the fact that it is not funny, the script and plot go nowhere. This Is 40 is not up to the standards you would expect from Apatow, so do yourself favor, save your money.

I CAN SO RELATE. A MUST SEE!

This movie was absolutely hilarious. It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud during a movie and with this....I was dying. Tears in my eyes. So many great one liners and many that I'm sure I missed from laughing so hard. I'll have to see it again. If you're 'around that age' and have kids that age......see it. The cast was great! Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are hilarious and so are the children in the film - Leslie's children in real life. Al Brooks is great too.

Not understanding the 'vanilla' reviews from some - lighten up people! Not every family is the Cleavers - for goodness sake. Welcome to dysfunctional family 2012. LOVED IT.

    THIS IS 40

LOVED THIS IS 40! Hilarious! I went with my husband and it was our first anniversary though we are now divorcing and we don't have kids and we are older this couple reminded us of ourselves with the constant fighting. They had the commitment to stay together! My husband does not. My husband sits on the toilet and I invade his privacy and ask questions and he hates it! So many things are what we and probably others literally do say and do as couples and yet think no one else does them - like the "BUTT" scene where the husband asks her to look to see what is going on there, etc. Typical! RUN TO SEE THIS MOVIE - DON'T WALK - RUN - RUN - RUN! We rate it a 10+ on hilarious! But I could see if you are younger and not married or not experienced some of these same things in life it could not be funny to you. The audience when we saw it on New Year's Eve completely laughed the entire show and all out loud. So enjoy it!

Some Funny Moments But Too Contrived For Me.

At least they actually used the child talent here. Had they not, this one would have been much worse. Still, this play is hardly the family comedic romp they're selling in the trailers. Is it a bad film? No. Is it worth the price of a movie seat today? That's a judgment call best left to the one that's paying. Given that particular choice again, knowing what I know now, I'd have waited for the DVD, cable or stream.

This is 40 is a great movie, it offers a multi scene, multi approach to the issues facing life at 40. While it was marketed as the sequel to the move "Knocked Up" there seems to be no real connection other than the cast.

Over all the move was great and offered rich emotional and comedic insight into the challenges of aging.

    Awful

    by stevens

Just watch the trailer and save your time and money rather than wasting it to see if this foul, extremely dysfunctional family will ever figure it out. It just goes on and on and gets worse and worse.

    Angry People

It is always so heartwarming to see a movie that makes family life seem like a nightmare. Almost constant foul language and a very angry, unhappy, and unlikable group of people summarizes this movie. Even the kids are foul-mouthed and unlikable. Oh yeah. . .and one or two funny parts. Wait for this to come on video. . .because there is no way this will end up on network TV.
