    Good Variety

I really enjoyed this show. There were many different acts that kept the audience's attention. It was something different, and I would definitely go to another This American Life show.

    I was a little underwhelmed

It had good intentions. But it wasn't funny when it should've been. Some technical mishaps. Didn't get a lot of what they were trying to do. And some stuff, just would've worked better on radio. Highlights were the Vivian photographer lady, the comic that talked about Taylor Dane, and the blind man. In fact, I think this just would've worked better had they shortened this to an hour and a half or less.

    THIS AMERICAN LIFE

I enjoyed majority of the movie. In the end I did feel that it was not worthy of the $23 ticket (tax included). Rather, the regular exuberant cost of a movie would have been sufficient.
What I did like was the varied cast of humorist. Going to this show with some preconceived ideas of what it would look like during a recording of a radio show was crushed in a major way. In particular, my ideas of how the background sounds are made. There was only in one display in one of the 5 acts.
I enjoyed the humor dealing with Taylor Dane and the interactive use of the cell phone. I also enjoyed the very strange dancers. They were excellent and different. Terry Gross was great!
I had some difficulty understanding Ira at the beginning of the show. His speaking was garbled and quick. I questioned why does he do so well on the radio? His voice can be ethnic and high pitched but pleasant. But this night, it was not distinguishable from any regular person who was not a radio celebrity.

Like the radio show but better

    by traslin

If you are a fan of the radio show, you will love the live show. It is great being able to put faces to all the familiar voices, and they picked some great stories to tell. Dance, music, movies... it has it all. I will definitely be going the next time they do it.

    The American Life lIve

What a relief from the drek that passes for entertainment on TV and film these days. Really intelligent, real talent, real people. I was impressed with every part of the production. Not a dull minute.

And SMART!!! Did I mention that intelligent adults rarely get challenged by anything on TV or at the movies? Ira Glass may save the American intellect, and make us laugh, cry and sigh with pleasure in the process. And the DANCERS!!!! What a rare and incredible treat.

    Out of Box

I appreciate TAL's vigilance at thinking out of the box. I enjoyed the evening, enjoyed the performance, appreciated being able to see the faces behind the voices. I also gained a stronger appreciation for "audio only." It takes a different technique to present your story "video-style." TAL was obviously out of its element . . . but I enjoyed it nonetheless. -bP

    This American Life- LIVE

    by kmdm686

Had so much fun and entertainment last night at our local Cinemark theater on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Ira seemed like he was having as good of a time as everyone else. Not sure why David Sedaris appeared in clown make-up, but didn't really care as he was as so good.

The dancers! The stories! The interactive music! True genius!

Please consider having more of this type of show. Really. Kathleen

    TAL Live Broadcast

For lovers of This American Life, a live broadcast (even from a remote theater) is a MUST. Interactive and visual TAL-esq material is wonderful, coupled with classic radios stories with just enough imagery and visual components to make it spectacular. Go, go go next time! And buy tickets quick!

    Great storytelling lives

it was a great deal of fun to see how the radio show may actually function. Even though much of it were storytellers just standing telling their stories, it gave an image to imagine how the show was put together. It was also fun to see the changes they made to make the show more visual. the musical interlude was a clever idea and enjoyable to all

Wonderful, Funny, Surprising. Not all radio things 'worked' on camera, but so many visual things were stunning and beautiful. Sometimes when they were simply telling the stories, I needed to close my eyes to listen.

    Such a disappointment!

    by pbchase

Westbury Stadium 12 Theater had sound problems....management blamed Fathom Events, We all left and got immediate refunds, but how awful! I was so looking forward to this and it isn't like a film where they could rewind and try again. A live event is just that....you only get one shot, and they blew it. I will not take the chance again to purchase tickets to other Fathom Event Live productions.

    This American Life Live!

I saw the 1st simulcast Ira and company did, and I didn't think it could get it any better than that, but I am pleased to report it did!!! The first one was great because it was such a new and inventive idea, but they really expounded on their talents and creativity. Even though, I saw the live version last night I am seriously considering coughing up another $20 to go see the rebroadcast on Tuesday night. There were so many surprises and I couldn't believe how courageous the whole crew was in putting together such an ambitious show. It was beautiful, challenging, hilarious, thought provoking, and touching, and I can't wait for them to see what they have in store for the next one (hoping there is a next one).

    Making the invisible visible

What better theme for a live performance of a radio show! The dance, film, and other visual elements fit the This American Life viewpoint so well, the variety was amazing. As expected, there was humor as well as poignancy and as NOT expected there was some audience participation, (no spoilers.) I laughed, i cried, it became a part of me? Kudos to Ira Glass and all the performers and contributors.
