The Thing review

Loved the original back in 82' with Kurt Russell. I was skeptical in seeing this version of "The Thing" as many remakes are either hit or miss, mainly misses, but I was not disappointed. The 2011 version of "The Thing" is a Great Movie! The only elements that are the same from the original is that there is an evil alien and there are people trying to survive. This is not the same story being retold and the characters are new. There are very tense and scary moments in the movie and the special effects are Awesome (no 3D needed, thank you Mr Film Maker. I was aleady tired of bad 3D effects). *** It is not necessary to see the original in order to enjoy this version*** Now that I said that, I highly recommend you watch the original as there is a surprise mixed into the end credits of the movie that you won't appreciate unless you saw the 1982 "The Thing".

Ultimate Prequel

First and Foremost, if you are not a Science Fiction/Horror fan, then stay home. You will not like the movie. For the rest of us, I can honestly say that this Prequel weaves perfectly into the John Carpenter version. CGI and robotics blend harmoniously to create awesome visuals. It's a roller coaster ride. Enjoy!

A Pretty Good Remake

I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I'm a fan of the horror genre and of the original version of The Thing, The plot development was never lagging and moved at a good pace. Obviously as a horror/sci fi film, there were many things that you had to take with a grain of salt, but the effects really blew me away. The grotesque fusions of monster and man had my heart racing more than the actual fight/chase sequences. This is really a film everyone has to go see if you're a fan of horror or sci fi.

More suspenseful then it was scary

I did not have nightmares but the movie had me trying to guess what was going to happen next. You did not know who was going to be next or who already "got-got". Graphics were nice! This was a type of movie I would only see once but it was worth the money.

Where it all began

Let me start off by saying how that I a huge fan of the remake by John Carpenter and this film does not let you down. The female lead is strong and tough but not by Hollywood conventions. She reminds me more of Ripley from the Aliens series and is just as believable. Now, I love the original Stan Winstone creations from way back when and the CGI in this film does take me out of it for a second or two, but all in all it was a fantastic, paranoid ride. It added so much depth to an already wonderful history and set up the movie we all know and love. If you are looking for a film with some old fashion scares, some new fashioned effects, and a wonderful story then don't let this one get by you.
