The World's End

I hated this movie! If I hadn't been with friends I would have walked out long before it was over. I thought it was supposed to be a comedy but I never laughed once. I kept thinking the characters would wake up from a bad dream but it wasn't a dream. It was far-fetched and way over the top. Don't bother.

Superbad for grownups

By Blumantis

It took some convincing for my 14-year-old son to drag me to a movie about 5 guys doing a pint per bar across a dozen bars in a night. He told me the movie had excellent reviews, and so I took a gamble. My gamble was rewarded. Like Superbad, this movie exposes and glorifies the childish side of debauchery, only this one starts in college and echoes in the present. Led by one character who has never quite grown up (I know a few...), the gang tries to recapture "the evening", only this time they want to make it all the way to the final bar - The World's End. There is the childish bantering, the individual characters' flaws, the woman, the successes, the shortcomings... All this gets thrust in what is supposed to be a re-run made right. Only the plot takes a ridiculous turn, as the town is now run by aliens and most of the residents are not human. The movie has a bit of a happy ending. There is resolution of a sort. There is serendipitous growth. And there are good times.

A Fitting Conclusion

I know that the 'trilogy' here isn't a true trilogy. But The World's End is definitely a fitting conclusion to the work begun with Shaun of the Dead and continued through Hot Fuzz. I would recommend this movie for the sheer hilarity of the cast and comments throughout, regardless of plot or anything else. It was a laugh that never stopped, and a chuckle that I still had even after leaving the theater.

A surprisingly good romp!

I very much enjoyed the last installment of the "Cornetto Trilogy"! It was funny and surprising. As expected, it was reminiscent of many old body snatcher type stories, with some interesting and frankly unexpected commentary. This movie felt like the trilogy "grew up" and those themes were definitely present. If you have enjoyed their previous outings in "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" you will certainly enjoy this.

Don't go based on the preview

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was really funny right up to the part where the robots came into play. Then it was just plain ridiculous! That's 2 hours I'll never get back!
