After a summer of entertainment aimed at feeding the adolescent need for expressions of violence and angry adventure, we are "treated" to the anguish of adults needing success and the decision-making that will bring it to them, regardless of the morality and courage necessary to conduct meaningful lives. It's the "tough" road to success versus an easy answer to solving your "problems."

One of the best movies I've seen this year....The sadness of lives lost, the real author Jeremy Irons, the fraudulent writer Bradley Cooper, and Dennis Quaid, the film's storyteller, and the real fraud in this tragic movie, still has me mesmerized...I can't stop thinking about the movie.
The actors were all excellent. Too late for the author played by Bradley Cooper and Dennis Quaid, to redeem themselves, his life is lost, just the way the manuscript was lost for so many years.
Movie was so well done, I will recommend the movie and I will see it again....a haunting movie....The lies people perpetuate, of their own volition...never to come back to reality ever again, it's too late...Cinematography was beautiful, directing couldn't have been better....Movie is for all adults....

I didn't know much about this movie going into it. I knew it was about a writer who finds an old book and passes it off as his own. However, that's just a small part of this intricately woven story of love and the profession of writing and storytelling. First, there's the past: an American GI in Paris falls in loves and experiences some truly difficult relationship traumas. He temporarily separates from his wife and pours his heart out on the page and completes a terrifically personal novel. The next storyline is the story within another book, which is essentially the main storyline of the movie, where a writer passes that American GI's novel as his own, sells it, and it becomes a huge success. The original author, the American GI, shows up to confront the fraud to further advance the story. The final layer, which serves to tie all the stories together, is of another author telling both stories. It sounds confusing, but it just works well as a thriller.

I went with my wife and was expecting a boring love story. It isn't action packed, but the story is good and makes you think. I would recommend the movie.

Basically went for Bradley and Zoe. Should have read some reviews first. Could have passed. Not sure if it is the director, screenwriter or editor but they attempted too much, in such that there was a lack of development of the complete story. Also not sure what was the point of the movie. Interesting concept of a story inside a story inside a story however the last level of the story ( Dennis Quid's story) was shallow at best. IF they would have left it with 2 levels and developed the story lines MORE this could have been a really really good film. Instead it fell completely flat at the end; as if they ran out of budget and just stopped abruptly. Sorry, if not for the actors headlining to draw folks in, this would go directly to DVD, It probably will in a few weeks anyway.
