No lie: maintaining it's ranking as the BEST American fantasy pic of all time
The Big Screen is the best way to see this movie and I'm grateful I had the chance, bringing my 3 and 4 year old grandchildren with me. Their eyes never--NEVER--left the screen and they were mesmerized by the opening short with Angela Landsbury, "The Making of Oz," as well, which surprised me.
I expected a bit more because of the hype over "Hi-Def," and didn't think the clarity of the film was what it should be, given the massive publicity and promises of Hi-Def, but, having said that, I, too, saw things in the movie I had never noticed before AND the sequence when Dorothy first opened the house door onto Munchkinland was breathtaking...much longer than I had ever experienced before, with lots of detail.
The audience was properly appreciative and clapped and cheered at all the appropriate places, which made it much more enjoyable, I believe, for the little ones in the audience. I was surprised at how timeless the comedy and even the special effects still are.
