Exceedingly long, historically difficult.

After reading all the good reviews, I decided to see this movie. It was not a satisfying experience. The characters spend a lot of time yelling at each other. It was like watching an Italian wedding. I was not very grounded in the history of the period, so I felt very lost. Also, the movie is very long and ends on a completely unpleasant note. I'm not sure if the ending is actually based on fact, but I find it very hard to believe that that would actually happen. I think the subject matter could have been handled differently and been presented in a better manner.

This is the most accurate portrayal of the Irish battle aginst the Brits and themselves. Gruesome yet it has to be to convey the true history of the time. Extremely good and powerful

the Wind that Shakes the Barley

A very realistic portrayal of a war for national independence. It's not "realistic" like "300," which bathes the viewer in blood. Instead, it captures the feeling of the war, complete with a sense of the conflicts between different groups of fighters for independence. The Bushies should see it to get a feel of how occupiers of another country are seen by the residents, while the Iraqi "insurgents" should see it to get a feel for what may happen in their future.
