A Great Break From The Summer Blockbusters!

Just fantastic! The Way, Way Back is a heartwarming tale of an awkward teenager coming to grips with his changing family dynamic while learning to have confidence in himself. The story is excellent although it suffers from one contrived moment of stereotypically urban/ethnic kids dancing on a piece of cardboard. The circumstances of a 14 yo befriending an adult stranger is also a stretch in this day and age. I never thought I could hate Steve Carrell as a character, but he made it possible. Allison Janney and Sam Rockwell are hilarious. Parents bringing kids/teenagers... be forewarned that there is some language as well as some (justifiable) back talking. Some might take the message of coloring outside the lines as promoting defiance. If you're up for some chuckles and a story with actual depth, The Way, Way Back should be at the front of your movie going list. There's nothing during or after the credits If you like my reviews, add me as a fan. I'll add you back!

Not your typical Summer movie

Was lucky enough to snag some screener tickets to this after seeing the preview and I'm glad I did. When most Summer movies are crammed full of explosions and overdone CGI, this is a classic Summer time throwback. Sam Rockwell absolutely stole the show and nailed his character perfectly. Steve Carrell's character was outside of his typical comedic schtick and he nailed it -- everyone that went couldn't believe how much we hated his guts by the end of the movie. If you're in the mood for something different at the theaters, go give this one a watch.

I enjoy movies like this a lot...movies about life that meander through a realistic yet comical lens with no clear destination. That said, I like for those movies to reveal something to me eventually and I don't believe this film accomplished that. Just enjoyable enough to make it worthwhile, but nothing more.

Way, Way Good!

When you just want to see a smart movie with great acting (Sam Rockwell MUST be nominated) and an ensemble committed to a project, this is one for you. And ....it is out RIGHT now! The boy's pain is reminder of what children suffer on a day to day basis who have to gut up and maintain a normal life. The key kooks in this film aren't just heroes, they are written as saviors! A beautiful tale...or is it fiction?

This is a feel good movie...that's intellectually stimulating, contains great acting, has some really great humor, and sends you on your way with much to talk about. If it's dinner and a movie...do the movie first, and then the dinner. Lots of funny scenes to share with each other.
