Very Good Prequel

I'd give four of five stars; answers the questions the original asked concerning what happened to the Norwegian scientists that found the spaceship and alien in a cool, fun, intelligent way. Best thing about the movie; a ton of fun to watch. Negatives--maybe a little too much alien car chase where more science would have been welcome. Worth going to. A smart person's horror film.

Sound was lost about 15-15 minutes into show, 15 minutes later they were still 'working on it', could not say for sure if show would be rewound, restarted, or what. I demanded my money back, will wait for it to come out on PPV or VOD!!!

A decent prequel

Being such a die-hard fan of the original film, I was looking forward to seeing this one. Doing some research, I found that they took great pains to maintain continuity with the original, something that I greatly appreciate. The film fell a bit below my expectations but was quite good overall. Great camera work. Amazing sweeping panoramas and tense tight shots. The majority of the cast seemed a bit rigid but Mary Elizabeth Winstead was stunning. The script definitely could have used some polish. There were many typical cliché plot conventions that took away from the story and the usage of CGI over practical effects lessened the impact. Still a decent prequel to one of my favorite movies.

i thought this movie was a really excellent remake of the 1982 version. it was scarier and the special effects were excellent. on a scale from 1 to ten, i give it an 9. they stuck to the previous version with a few changes/observations that only made the storyline better, very smart ending. if you like slick horror, you will enjoy this picture. this is one for your dvd collection.

Fans of the 82' THING will Love It.

I had my reservations. We all did. But, I was glad to hear that this version was a prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter's THE THING, which was a classic. As far as horror movies go, where a group of people are stuck somewhere with an alien monster, this wasn't bad. I mean, the directing wasn't great, and the acting and writing could have been better, but it wasn't the worst. If it was a stand alone film, I would have given it a SO-SO rating. That is, until I saw the ending!!! You will be pissed at first, and then you will love it. What really caught me about it was how good of a Prequel it was! If your a fan of the 82' version, you will start to see certain scenes in this one that match perfectly. If you haven't seen the old one, then you should. It will make this one all the more enjoyable. They even used some animatronics that would mimic the old effects. So basically, if you liked the old one, you'll like this one. If you didn't, Geek Soul Brother can't help you.
