The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: There's a Reason It's a Classic
I had seen parts of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" over the years, but never the full movie. I don't know why exactly that is, but I think it's partially because, as a kid, I saw the sequence where Leatherface drags a girl kicking and screaming into his macabre, feather-festooned lair, and thought to myself, I think I'll pass on this for awhile. Well, this past Saturday night, I was fortunate to finally see the whole thing along with live commentary from director Tobe Hooper. And now I know why so many horror fans love this movie. Seeing it with a packed audience, with the director sharing anecdotes on the filmmaking and its history, you could really feel how innovative this movie is even today, nevermind 35 years ago. This is truly a horrifying, demented, disturbing, and downright sick movie. But it's also inspiring in its originality and its artfulness. If you love horror, then you've found your perfect movie.
