Saw this movie tonight in LA. Amazing.

I know a lot of people are saying negative things about this movie but it truly is intense and disturbing. Especially the last couple of minutes... don't worry this isn't a spoiler I'm not giving anything away. Very good flick. The pop up scares got to me, but the long drawn out tension building scenes got me even more. There is this one scene that made my heart beat so fast I felt like I was in the movie. I think when movies are close to reality they freak me out more than the gore ****that's overloading Hollywood these days.

I truly enjoyed this movie and recommend to all horror fans.

    A scarey movie classic

    by michy22

I have been watching scary movies since I was 6. Although some of them come close, this one was probably the scariest so far. I sat in the thearter in a constant state of anxiety ,covering my eyes because I was to afraid to look. The fact that it might have truly happened heightend the movie experience. I wont let my children see it because now I am afraid to be alone at night. If you love old time movies like halloween go see it you wont be disappointed

    GO.

The SCARIEST movie of the summer and possibly the scariest I've ever seen!! The Suspense kills and its not like other scary movies with happy miracle endings. I was screaming in the theater like I was the one being knifed! and the masks they wear are REDICULOUSLY scary. Must go if you like being scared.

    The Strangers....VERY WORTH seeing!!!

    by

I thought this movie was going to be kind of bad and disappointing...like Prom Night (had a good trailer but the overall movie wasn't that great). The more I thought about going to go see this movie the more I started to second guess myself if it would be worth it. I'm proud to say, that my money was not wasted ($9.00 at my theatre).

The Strangers is really good movie and I can't wait for the DVD to come out because I will be purchasing it. At first, the movie seemed like it was going to be kind of cheesy, but once the action starts, there's not a single dull moment. The acting was excellent, the antagonist was VERY scary, and the movie seemed like it REALLY could happen to someone (I think this is what people will think about for a while after seeing it).

I don't recommend young children under 14 should see this, as it may just be a bit too must for them to handle. For everyone else, you REALLY should go see this movie, its great!!!

Best since original Halloween-Big statement I know

    by Hfan

I would definitely go if your a horror fan. No gore, no special effects, just plain old suspense with a mask. Halloween had a reason for killing, a target group, and a seemingly supernatural flair in avoiding death, but the scariest parts of that movie involve little to no sound, unexpected jump scenes, camera angles of "everday" stuff, and views of the masked character throughout. The Strangers has many of those same elements: little to no sound, then noises to jump to, camera angles of everyday stuff, annoying music on a record player occassionally which somehow adds to the creepiness, and masked characters throughout. Starts out slow, builds characters, to which the actors performed very well in their respective roles. I think anyone who appreciates a good thriller, this one bordering horror, will enjoy this film. Realism, yes...bad things happen to good people all the time. Random acts of violence do occur. This years Halloween masks for sure.

    Hmmm...

    by eyeful

    Started out okay
You get enough backstory to care about the two main characters
So the suspense and tension works
The home invasion stuff is creepy
You get some spooky masks and Joanna Newsom playing in the background
    Points for atmosphere
    Okay...then what?

The second act is just a bunch of clichéd cat and mouse
Yawn...when Liv twisted her ankle while running away...
I ask you? Any sympathy for the characters evaporated.

The killers are undefined, I hope they're not expecting me to
sit thru a sequel for that mystery to be revealed!!
It really seemed like they filmed an unfinished script.
Zero payoff, the vague ending was particularly annoying!

    Good horror flick

This movie keeps you jumping with "Blair Witch" style suspense. Very similar to the French made "Them". Liv Tyler is fantastic at relaying true terror to the viewer. Rarely is there the "traditional" cheesy Hollywood movie horror film predictibility. Overall, the movie uses simple tactics to scare the be-Jesus out of you. There is a lot left to the mind. Definitely go and see it.

The best horror movie in the past couple years

A lot of people don't like this movie because of the ending.
If you like happy endings then this movie isn't for you. If you
movies as a piece of art, then this is a great movie. I dont get
scared in horror movies but my heart was ponding all the way
through and i jumped at times. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO
THE BEGINING PHONE CALL. the person who calls is
JORDAN. which at the end I think is one of the boys.
There is a twist and you need to listen to that 911 call to get it.
i enjoyed this movie. it had to end the way it did or it would have
been just another lame horror movie.
so go see it with an open mind.

    STRANGERS = WEIRD PEOPLE

I saw this movie on saturday and i was really excited to see it. It was super scary. The scariest part of it is all of the suspence. i was crawling in my seat. i felt like i was in the movie. and Liv Tylor does an excellent job of capturing the fear of her charactor. this movie started out slow and once the nock at the door comes its action and suspence till the end. a very well thoughtout movie. I wasnt crazy about the ending though is left me hanging. And the STRANGERS were strange youll get what i mean when u see it. The concept of the movie is so scary because people do come over to kill you in real life just because you were home. i feel that this movie is much better than some tv knockoff "Sex and the City" or something that has been dome before :Indiana Jones" see this movie not those 2 you wont be dissapointed.

    Go See The Strangers

I can't remember being so scared from a movie in years. The Strangers has a deliberately old school cheezy 70s to late 80s slasher movie feel to it. Remember the first time you ever saw Friday The 13th and were introduced to Jason Voorhees?? Or Michael Myers in Halloween?? For some reason it reminded me of the rush horror movies USED to have back in the day. You know the expectation that whatever you're about to see will be brutal and twisted---and the excitement looking forward to it.

I'm not going to say anything more about the plot because you all know it by now from the description and other reviews. Suffice to say that The Strangers ties in to that feeling when you think you're not alone or when you swear you saw something out the corner of your eye or feel like someone's watching you and you're all alone at home. Just pure fear.

I thought the ending sucked (last minute or so) but overall I loved the movie and was happy to shell out the bucks for it. Highly recommended!

Good Date Movie, but not very original...

This is a great date movie, as it has some pretty tense moments that are sure to have your girlfriend clinging to you in fear. However for what it has in quick scares, it lacks in originality.

Without spoiling the movie, I will instead point out things I picked up on that were complete rip offs of other horror flicks of years past.

    1. The opening monologue is a direct texas chainsaw rip off.
    2. The Bag on the head of the main villain is a friday the 13th part 2 rip off.
    3. There is a scene in the movie where Liv Tyler hides in a closet while the main villain is right outside of it, this is a rip off of the scene in the original halloween film where Jamie Lee Curtis gets attacked by Michael Myers toward the end of that movie in the closet.
    4. Movies tend to follow trends, some years there are slashers, others are ghost storys, this year seems to focus on home invasion as the main fear it plays upon. (IE:Funny Games)

Decent movie, but lacking originality, Just my two cents!

    The Strangers

I've been waiting on a scary movie that actually made me scream. This movie did just that.
Although I really didnt understand the plot of the story, I still thought it was pretty good.
I wish I had known why these people killed Jimmy and Kristen. Who were these people?? Now that I think about it, the plot was kind of random.

    Not So Strange

This film accomplishes its main goal which is to scare you. Other than that it falls flat. The suspenseful moments are incredibly realistic and kept me on the edge of my seat. The subtle approach to get you scared is great. However, the film plays out every horror movie cliché in the book. Including the all too familiar "Dumb protagonists." When has splitting up ever ended well for characters in a horror movie? Also, I heard that the film is not based on true events like the preview misleading says. Overall, it would have been nice to end with some things closed up, like who the killers were, what they wanted, and maybe they could have just had their fun and left the poor people alone?

    the strangers falls short

It was very irritating to have the whole movie lead up to one stabbing. It scares the sudience over and over with quick pop out schenarios but the true story they say it is doesnt give any true detail or serious thinking!
