  verbally destroyed by critics alike and never given a chance at all to survive

  so i'm giving you my opinion on what i thought about it. the critics thought the acting was bad, one of my movie sources described it as empty. I thought it was done the only possible way it could of been. this movie is possibly the worst-best film i have seen this year, critically acclaimed and from my personal opinion. I knew nothing about the story or any of the characters in the movie but eve mendez's butt was a thing of beauty. All joking a side, i thought the characters in the movies were humorous and really silly. I made an exception for all the goofy lines because i figured thats how the comic was written out. the spirit (Gabriel Macht) was a good super-hero and the octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) was good too. so all the fans out there watch this movie at your own risk, you might enjoy you may not. I mean what can i say, critics are looking for the best not average, so they may have going throught some post movie stress. if you read this review, plesase comment..........

  Ed Wood Has Risen From The Grave...

  Now I know what it was like for the poor people who viewed the 2nd worst movie of all time: Ed Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space.
  
  I went to this movie as a Frank Miller fan. How could anyone who made a masterpiece like "Sin City" make such a TERRIBLE film? I even neglected to check in to my reliable Fandango reviews because of my reverence for his previous work.
  
  I am currently organizing an angry mob armed with pitchforks and torches to storm his castle.
  
  WARNING: You cannot unsee this movie. My family and I left the movie after an hour. For contrast purposes, we left when the Spirit awakens tied to a 1950's era dental chair only to be chided by a nazi uniform-clad Samuel Jackson. It got even worse as I left the theater--I've never felt so disappointed, befuddled, and yet joyful to leave anyplace like this in my life. I'm sure this is the first horseman of the apocolypse.

  Worst Movie Ever!!!!!

  I saw this movie on Christmas night. It made this the Worst CHRISTMAS EVER!!! THis movie is the biggest waste of time. Two of my friends walked out and went to see Yes Man. THe only time you will laugh is when the movie becomes so ****ing retarded that your anger at it turns into laughter. My friends and I spent the entire car ride home discussing all the terrible things in the world that are better than this piece of ****movie. Let me be clear...I loved Sin City. I thought Sin City was one of the best movies of that year. Anyone who says this movie is like Sin City will burn in hell for eternity. This is the first movie I have ever wrote a review about. This movie pissed me off so much that I feel that I need to warn the rest of the world so no one else will see it. THIS MOVIE IS WORSE THAN THE HOLOCAUST. I would rather watch the movie "Gigli" on a continuous loop for the rest of my life then sit through this terrible ****ing movie one more time.

  Worth the money

  I have to say, I almost skipped this because the critics really did not like; however, don't let that fool you. I love comic books, and this had all the right comic book aspects and fun. Yes the dialogue is stilted, it is campy and weird in someplaces, JUST LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. I honestly don't think that the critics understood what Mr. Miller was going for here. The tone was just right, it was stylized and visually very interesting and was like a comic book come to life. Since everyone else seems to want to compare, yes, I did think that Sin City was better, but that was because I liked the story more and it was more gritty. I think this movies stands on it's own as a very entertaining adaptation of the story that inspired Frank Miller in the first place. Movie is definitely not for everyone, but I do think that comic book fans will find it to be worth the time and money.

  The Spirit

  Visually fantastic compares to Sin City ( visually only). If you are looking fo the next sin city this is not it. Boring, boring, boring. The story did not hold my attention at all (almost dozed off) I do not recomend this movie.

  What a waste...

  This was such a terrible movie that I can't imagine how it even made it into theaters. I also do not know how anyone even remotely connected to this sad mess could ever want to be seen in public again. Awful story-line, awful dialogue, awful acting. Did first graders write the dialogue? I tried to remember that this is supposed to be cartoonish and based on a comic book but nothing could salvage this movie. I am so sorry that we did not walk out after the first 10 minutes and ask for our money back. 300 and Sin City were good but they can't expect to just keep filming in a similar style and automatically produce a winning film. Spare yourself the torture, save your money and don't waste your time.

  You'll never get the hours you waste watching this movie back...think about that!

  Rarely am I compelled to write a review about anything, let alone a movie. This is quite possibliy the most ridiculous idea of a movie I have ever seen. I would have loved to have walked out, but we picked up other friends who had to endure the travesty with us. Turns out, they too wanted to walk out (not all is lost, however, this movie helped us establish a new rule when it comes to crappy movies...someone has to "call it out" before we commit to an entire showing) on this movie.
  I can't even believe how embarrassed the somewhat "cool" actors must feel going to the premiere of this junk, as they get looks from other people prentendng to have liked it to save them even further embarassment. One highlight: A brief shot of Eva Mendes in the buff, but that too might have been a farce (perhaps a body double?.) Oh well, as you can see, Im reaching here. If someone runs into Frank Miller, please karate chop him in the throat for doing this movie.

  You need to see it to appreciate a good movie...

  Okay. I walked out of this movie laughing my *** off. I walked into the theater expecting to see an hour and a half of pure you-know-what, but I was mildly surprised to find that it didn't suck - actually, it sucked SO MUCH, that it was mildly entertaining. I understand why some people would feel about this movie not making sense, the plot being messed up, bad acting, blah, blah, blah - but I thought that it wasn't half bad. Yeah, I would have agreed with them, if I saw it with my parents. However, I saw it with my two teenage friends and a little brother, and we actually enjoyed it, because it depends on who you see it with and what you make of it. We were able to detect and laugh at the fact that it sucked so bad, which made it funny. It was almost like watching a cartoon, but we're kids, so it was fine. We did get kind of antsy for it to end at about the last 30 min, but we never thought about getting up and walking out once. Instead, we'll be thinking about those bad catch phrases!

  The worst movie that can exist and ever will !

  I loved 300 and Sin city. both frank miller movies. so I figured "hey the spirit looks awesome and its by frank miller." I am the biggest movie buff. I have never walked out of movie in my life. I have seen 152 movies in my 20 years. It is random, the plot (is there one?) , the movie seems to take place in the 40's but there are cell phones and copy machines? the main character talks to himself like they should be thoughts in his head but then we can also hear the thoughts in his head? How do you make scarlette johansson look ugly? I am horrified that I witnesses this monstrosity of a movie. I'd rather watch my parents having sex in exchange for never having seen this movie. the only people you should recommend this movie to are those you despise, I mean really really loathe. half of the theatre walked on this movie. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  My cup of tea, maybe not yours.

  Reviews on The Spirit are very mixed. Many don't care for ir. My wife wasn't impressed. I thought it was a HOOT! This is NOT The Dark Knight or IronMan. It truly is a comic book on the big screen. If You want a serious bit of cinema, stay away. You HAVE to buy into this being what it is. The plot is a bit thin. The visuals are stunning. It's a comic book played for the all out hilarity. The cast is excellent. Props are something else. At the beginning of the story the cars are 1955 vintage, Fast forward 15 years and the teenagers are now adults. The cars are the same. Airplanes are straight out of the 1930's, then later in the same scene current day attack helicopters show up. If all that doesn't throw you off the movie just may be for you. I loved it.

  Absolutely Terrible!

  Okay, I saw the commercial for this movie on tv, It looked corny but I decided to go because all my other friends were going and the director of 300 and sin city was directing this film.
  
  Anyway, My friends and I walk in and purchase our tickets, one of our friends was working the booth so I said "Yo, Is this thing sold out?" and he replied "Are you kidding me? 69% left". As soon as i heard that, I was thinking to my self, this movie must be terrible. It turned out Valkyrie, Marley and Me, and Yes Man were filled. I saw that Valkyrie was sold out.
  
  We sit down, Within the first 10 minutes of the movie, all my friends and probably everyone else in the movie theatre including me were disappointed, bored, and a little annoyed.
  
  Long story short: This Movie is TERRIBLE! Its so bad, its PATHETIC.
  
  If your looking for another movie, I would recommend Valkyrie.

  Don't Get Tea Bagged By This Movie...

  After watching Max Payne I didn't think it could get any worse, after 45 minutes of watching this elaborate cinematic dump on the big screen, I couldn't help but think to myself...is this why people commit suicide? i waited a good 20 minutes thinking it the storyline and actions scenes would develop , but like a premature baby this movie needed some extra assistance in breathing the life back into this eye sore, assistance it never received...sad to say it died at the 45 minute mark....R.I.P. Spirit, you're in a better place now...This is one of those movies you rent on DVD when your having trouble sleeping, it will put you to bed in no time.

  It Wasn't What I Expected

  It Wasn't What I Expected but it turned out great yeah the dialogue was a little off but it was a comic movie it gets to get away with it. There was a good amount of action but not an over abundance and in all with Arthur Miller behind it it stuck as close as possible with the comic. So go see it and have fun.

  If you liked Sin City, you'll like The Spirit

  Samuel L. Jackson's character, The Octopus, is hysterical!! Like most comic-book based movies, you have to go in to this movie with the idea of not taking it too seriously. There were a lot of funny lines in this movie -- if you were paying attention -- actually, laughed out loud on several occasions. It was a fun and entertaining movie.
