Best Film in a Long Time

Saw this at a film festival and loved it. SO funny! Can find nothing wrong with it. Some people may be turned off by the nudity- although, for once, it's relevant. All of the actors are fantastic, especially those in non-lead roles. William Macy's facial expressions are genius. I think all adult age groups would enjoy this film, but maybe not those people who are offended by graphic sexual language and nudity.

Stunningly Honest, Exceptional Story, Unique and Completely Engaging.

Pairing Bill Macy and Helen Hunt for starters, now there's some real screen chemistry. Too bad their characters never interact, but that doesn't diminish this play one iota. Its frankness and honesty about an altogether extraordinary life situation is not only surprising, it?s downright refreshing. This is DEFINITELY for mature audiences and even among that group, some will find this movie uncomfortable to experience, more so to actually watch. Still, no judgments are fair except your own. Is it entertaining? Yes. Is it worth the price of a ticket? Yes. Is it an action filled blockbuster brimming with superheroes, dead presidential types or supernatural bloodsuckers? No. On the other hand, it's just as entertaining, to the right audience. You may or may not be one of them but for my part, I liked this film. Leave the kids at home or everyone will think you?re an idiot. Otherwise, see it. You won't be disappointed.

    Awkward

    by dscar11

While parts of this movie were very interesting and moving the sex scenes in it were totally awkward. Not to mention I didn't realize until the end that I was in the movie with 6 other people. All of them over the age of 65. The experience just was kind of strange. Everything prior to the session I enjoyed. I also really liked the main character. But I would not recommend this movie to anyone else to go and see.

    Sessions a dissapointment

Had great press and previews. Very dissapointing. I would give it a 65 on RT.
    1. No character development, no idea why Helen Hunt feels as she does, nor do we get any backstory of the life of JOhn Hawkes. Or how does JOhn Hawkes support himself ?
    2. Its a touching story but very shallow.
No idea what the big whoop is with this movie.

    Seesions

Fantastic movie. Has perfect pitch on a subject that could easily been either maudlin or prurient. Great writing. Hawkes, Helen Hunt and the priest(forgot his name) were all just wonderful. Very moving. An affirmation of life.

Sweet, Funny, Touching, Sad and Erotic and Mature

    by DurWi

The Sessions was an incredibly sweet, sad, uplifiting and funny movie about love and sexuality under the most difficult circumstances. Incredibly erotic but not in any way pornographic. Well written, well acted, well produced. There are no cheap shots in this movie, no crudeness, and no simple answers given. For mature audiences. This is for those who are mature not only in age but in outlook on life.

    Mesmerizing and touching

This is a beautiful, upbeat movie about a paralyzed man's struggles to find happiness, or more specifically, to lose his virginity. It is a true story told in large part through the writings and poems of the actual person. The cast is small, the action is subdued, there is laughter and wit and emotions galore. And yes, there is graphic sexuality, so leave the kids at home. Parts of the movie feel incomplete or forced, such as the relationship between the surrogate and her husband, but overall a very good film. Doesn't need to be seen on the big screen to be appreciated, but sure to be in the running for a number of big screen awards come Oscar season.

    The Sessions

Beautiful performances by Hawkes, Hunt, and Macy in this sweet, honest, subtle and tasteful portrayal of the experience of journalist and poet Mark O'Brien. His story provided inspiration on so many levels. the supporting cast also added humor, emotion and intensity. Will see this movie multiple times! Excited to see the Oscar Nominations that come out of this. Perhaps a Best Actor and Best Actress Nod?

    The Sessions Review

This movie had more nudity than ever, however, it was done in such good taste that it did not detract from the story line, a unique opportunity to see and understand the terrible results of the polio epidemic. Thank God for the Salk and Sabine vaccines. A wonderful movie.

    THE SESSIONS

This is a wonderful film that address's the sexuality of severely handicapped people. It is a look into their thoughts and desires. Their bodies may not be whole in many ways; but their minds and thoughts are just like the rest of us. Yes it has lots of nudity; but in this film it's no way used as titillation or to just show it. The nudity is used for creating self esteem in a person that has little to none. This films deals with the Catholic Church and it's approach to sex outside marrage. I'm not sure how the devout Catholic will feel about this film; but one thing for sure they will say that it is a heartfelt and compassionate movie. It is filled with true love and the honesty in finding that true love. The writer/director did a fantastic job of bringing this film to the screen. It is in no way a dirty or offensive film in my opionion. The three main actors were supurb. I can see at least two best actor/actress nominaions. A must see if you love films based on a mans true life.

    Honest, honest movie

This movie was breathtakingly honest from start to finish. The script was very straight-forward, subtle, touching and based on a true story. I loved the wit and courage of the main character, the tenderness and humanity of the Helen Hunt's character and the vulnerability and nakedness of the
story. It is right out there in your face with nudity, sensuality and love of the most touching kind.
Do not miss this movie! I loved it.

    Good story, but...

    by vmkd55

The story line is fascinating, and most people who have read the reviews will know what it's about. What was strnage was the constant nudity of Helen Hunt. Some reviews have said, "At least it was relevant." Really? I thought the story line was about the sexual issues of the MALE character. Yes, nudity was relevant here, but why was it relevant only for Helen's character? I don't recall a single shot of John's private parts. It always fascinates me when actors say they get naked as part of the "art" of their movie, yet it's almost always the female actors who are the ones who get naked. And even though nudity was relevant here, did we really need to see so many shots of Helen's landing strip?

    Sessions

A true story about the meaning of passion and true love. Because of the writing and sensitivit;y of the story, the nudity seems incidental.

    John vs Daniel

John Hawkes will win the Oscar for best actor for playing a character similar to the one played by Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot (for which he won an Oscar.) William H. Macy is fun to watch in whatever he does. Helen Hunt is always monotone to me, but people like fearless, and in this movie she is. Very enjoyable movie. Smart screenplay.

    Go see The Sessions....

    by RADDAD

The is a beautiful but, emotionally draining film.

It deals with very real, very difficult topics of the human existence and does so in a profound way. It is truly a must-see for emotionally mature individuals and couples.

    WONDERFUL!
