A gore film at best, sometimes humorous....soft on the horror

     by  The Spoiler

This movie is one of my favorite gross-out films of the season, but this movie doesn't stand the test of horrifying me at the least bit, but as a gross-out film, yeah, I was squirming.
The movie starts off in the typical fashion of these kinds of movies: 4 Americans vacationing in sunny South America are talked into a trip to an undiscovered Mayan ruin. Upon arriving, foreigners with an unknown agenda appear, but make it pretty clear that if any of them leave the ruin, they will be killed. Here starts the fight for survival as the foliage around them comes to life, picking them off one by one. Tons of blood and gore throughout the film will keep your attention (or just make you turn your head) This movie follows the typical formula of most gore films out there right now. A somewhat happy ending though: One girl survives!
If you're one of those that doesn't like horror traded for just plain gore, then you're going to have trouble keeping your eyes on the screen.

    The Ruined Ruins...

     by  Mochahues

Basically, in true film fashion... the book is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the movie.

I mean the movie completely misses any explanation of events, people, timeframes... just basically it plays out like a pointless movie where young idiots vacationing just so happen to die and never return...

blah blah blah... I could have waited to see this one on bootleg... and I don't even watch those :o(

Might be worth it to some, but not all

     by  cjnason

As with most movies it was different from the book quite a bit. A lot of the good parts and the explanations were left out because of time constraints. Someone who didn't read the book is going to be left with questions and be clueless as to what is really happening because they don't explain it well. And it's not for the squeamish. They did a pretty good job with the gross-out factor, and if you can't handle blood and guts (and other creepy things) I would avoid it. It was mostly enjoyable, but I won't be buying the DVD to add to my collection.

    The Ruins

On the peak through your fingers factor this movie had some good scarey moments. The end was a little abrupt but overall a good flick. I'd say you could wait for the DVD and have friends over. Don't eat dinner while watching though or even popcorn for that matter.

Completely plotless, only worth seeing if you like gore for gore's sake

     by  sazeeroadster

There was no plot to this movie. The sole only premise of the movie was a trip to the jungle to see some ruins. That's it. Then you encounter the creepies. If you like a gory movie with really no back story at all this would be for you. At least hostel's plot had the back story that there is an outfit selling tourists to wack jobs to be tortured. Saw has a man dying from cancer on a vendetta to make people appreciate life. This one had nothing like that.

Ok... Take this for what it is...

     by  werners

It's a typical "hack up the pretty looking girls" film. Good gore, nice screaming, and a fairly decent plot. If you're ready to enjoy a steriotype, and not try to be too critical about all the "no way would that REALLY happen" stuff that goes on throghout the film, then go - have fun.

Turn your suspension of disbelief to MAXIMUM

     by  AtlBuzzDawg

plain and simple, this movie isn't worth a rental

i'm glad that i scored free tickets, otherwise i would have had to demand a refund, it was that bad.

how can you even begin to take a suspence/thriller seriously when the audience is laughing at the stupidity of the characters ... all of them

    dont bother

    The Ruins

I thought it was an OK movie. It had alot of action and suspense. Any movie that I don't fall asleep duing is a good movie. ( I stayed awake on this one through the whole thing.)
