    Fantastic Cast

     by  Clementine

Although the entire cast was fantastic, Paul Dano stole the spotlight. Much different from his role in Little Miss Sunshine. Amazing, and finally showing what a spectacular actor he is!

    There is Blood

This is not a children's movie nor heartwarming. Daniel Day Lewis plays a convincing crazed loon who is obsessed with money and nothing else. Good companion film is Citizen Kane.

    There Will Be Blood

After striking oil, Daniel Plainview (Daniel-Day Lewis in an oscar-winning role) starts his own drilling company. They have numerous drills going around the state of California. One day a kid named Paul (Paul Dano) from a northern town approches Daniel and tells him that he found oil on his family ranch.
Daniel and his partner and also his son (Dillon Freasier) travel up to teh ranch. After they find oil there he buys the ranch and installs another oil drill.
After his son loses his hearing in an accident Daniel starts to get greedy and neglects his son. This 2007 Best Picture nominee is a great movie and I highly reccomend it.

    Greed in action

     by  Emmaus Road Reviewer

Amazing movie. Superb acting. Profound story telling.

I loved the parallell story lines between the oil man and minister. Both men are greedy. The oil man is willing to say things out loud that he really does not believe in to get his pipeline put through. Also the minister is willing to compromise himself in the hopes of getting money from the oil man. Both are greedy. Both abuse each other. Daniel Day Lewis throws the minister in the mud and physically pushes him around. This scene is repeated in the church service where the minister slaps him around before 'baptizing' him.

The message here is clear; greed corrupts. It corrupts the minister as well as the oil man. Even in the end it is not clear who comes out on the winning end of the stick. Greed has harmed them both. This reminded me of a quote from Jesus. "Watch Out! Be on your guard against all kids of greed for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." ~Emmaus Road is a church in South Bellevue.

     by  sonny7

this was probably one of the best films i have ever seen. DDL was amazing. It disappoints me to read bad reviews about this movie, especially coming from most of u ******** out there who prob didn't like it cuz u thought it was too long. But the truth of the matter is that u guys really don't have the mind capacity to truly appreciate this movie.

    Could have been better...

     by  jillyo5

Daniel Day Lewis played a great character, but it was way too long of a movie to keep my attention. I fell asleep during the last 15 minutes. I was kind freaked out by the preacher...to the point of uncomfortable. The movie had alot of potential and I kept waiting for something exciting to happen and it really never did.

    Original buzz:

    a smidge overrated.

     by  rosettamarie

I will mention first that I shouldn't even have to mention Daniel Day Lewis' BRILLIANT acting in this role (that voice!). And Paul Dano? He will see a great amount of success in his future.

Overall though, I found the plot to be a bit banal. I think this is partly because I had such high expectations for the story. I did enjoy it throughout, but I only noticed the film's greatness at its end... great final scene. I don't agree with TWBB's award for Best Cinematography (I will never forgive the Academy for not giving that to Atonement). This movie progresses a bit slowly because it is a bit long with a blatant underdevelopment of subplots. But this allows for the focus to be placed on Plainview and his eery ruthlessness, which I suppose is the essence of the film.

I don't think this is Paul Thomas Anderson's greatest film, but it may be for Daniel Day Lewis. I won't forget that role any time soon! I would recommend this to anyone looking for an interesting character to witness.
