Even if you aren't familiar with his poems/stories you'll still enjoy this movie. With its dark themes and haunting score this movie is right on. John Cusak and Luke Evans turn in great performances, as does Brendan Gleeson. Makes you want to go back and read his work.

I don't usually take the time to submit a review, but I just saw this movie last night and was sorely disappointed in how much i paid for the experience I got. Though like some of the reviews said it was more thriller/mystery with gore in it, and I found the gore to be a little over the top. I wish the story would have integrated more of Poe's sense of suspense and mystery. In all it was an okay movie, but I would definitely save my money and wait to see it on DVD. Hope this is helpful.

I loved this movie! Nice and gorey .. the way I like them. It wasn't non-stop gore but there were a couple pretty gruesome scenes. It will keep you guessing too. GO SEE IT!

I was a bit skeptical at first as the premise of the movie seemed far-fetched and hard to swallow, in spite of my efforts to follow the "willfull suspension of disbelief" rule. After about twenty minutes, I began to be sucked in to the tale, due mostly to some terrific acting by the star and supporting cast.
By mid-movie, I was hooked and was on the edge of my seat as I followed each turn of the plot, waiting for the villain to be unmasked.
Good incorporation of the actual literary works of Poe, well-acted by Cusack, who went from unsympathetic character to one you were happy to root for. A very enjoyable evening and happy to recommend this movie to others.

If you love the works of Edgar Allan Poe, you're sure to love this film. John Cusack turns in an excellent performance in his portrayal of Poe. The movie was suspenseful and kept me guessing until the very end. There are a couple gorish scenes but overall not the main focus of the film. A great murder mystery film!
