Cool idea, so so movie

The Raven is attractively filmed, has good acting and a clever premise--unfortunately it never generates much suspense or tension. There is also at least one giant hole in the plot that is never addressed--the engagement between Poe and his rich girlfriend is so secret nobody including her father knows about it, yet the killer kidnaps her because he knows about their relationship. That would suggest that the killer is someone who knows one of them pretty well, but that never occurs to anybody in the movie for some reason. This starts off very promisingly but loses steam quickly once you find out what the killer wants because it simply isn't exciting to watch someone writing. This could have been a lot better. It may be worth watching once if you only pay a matinee price. Otherwise wait for Redbox.

Even if you aren't familiar with his poems/stories you'll still enjoy this movie. With its dark themes and haunting score this movie is right on. John Cusak and Luke Evans turn in great performances, as does Brendan Gleeson. Makes you want to go back and read his work.

I loved this movie! Nice and gorey .. the way I like them. It wasn't non-stop gore but there were a couple pretty gruesome scenes. It will keep you guessing too. GO SEE IT!

I was a bit skeptical at first as the premise of the movie seemed far-fetched and hard to swallow, in spite of my efforts to follow the "willfull suspension of disbelief" rule. After about twenty minutes, I began to be sucked in to the tale, due mostly to some terrific acting by the star and supporting cast. By mid-movie, I was hooked and was on the edge of my seat as I followed each turn of the plot, waiting for the villain to be unmasked. Good incorporation of the actual literary works of Poe, well-acted by Cusack, who went from unsympathetic character to one you were happy to root for. A very enjoyable evening and happy to recommend this movie to others.

The Raven

Although the acting and costumes and the sets were awesome, I was just a little bored thru most of the movie. The first 1/2 hour is really dull...I did get into it a little more towards the end, but I was ready for it to end. I would not say save your money, I just didn't really care for it, nor did my wife. Teenagers and younger probably aren't going to like it at all. I was hoping it was going to be more of a thriller than just a mystery...
