A beautiful, deep and haunting film. The complexities of life, choices, consequences, and the impact of fatherhood resonate deeply. Not fast food film, but a complex meal to digest.

No spoilers here. I am not going to say anything about the story, except that it was much deeper and more interesting than I expected. The story, in fact, was what moved me most about this film. There was a lot of action and suspense in this film -- I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. But it was far more than "just" an action or suspense film, because the characters were so beautifully drawn. I found myself thinking about the characters the next day -- as though they were people whom I knew in real life, wondering what they were doing now. I care about these characters. I relate to them, although they live extremely different lives than I do -- but that's part of the fascination. The acting was incredible. Every single character was perfectly cast and did a superb job. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes exude a smoldering raw sexuality and energy. Gosling's make-up was fascinating. Directing: brilliant. Photography: beautiful. Take a chance and just go see this film.

Meandering and uninteresting

Although the actors in the film do a fantastic job, I did not find it very enjoyable to watch. It seemed to drag on quite a while. In fact, when the credits rolled my fellow moviegoer to my left said "Halleluia." I typically enjoy or find something interesting in most movies I see, unfortunately this one I could not. I often asked myself during the film what the point of the movie was. By the end, I was trying to review in my mind what the filmmaker wanted to say or what the message was, but there just didn't seem to be one. Skip it or see it on video if you are curious.

This film illustrates a story of a father and son over a span of 2 generations. Although it was a long feature, the directors/writers did really well with tying the story line together. The story is about a fathers and sons, as well as their trans-generational connection. I enjoyed this film a lot because Mendes, Gosling and Cooper (main characters) played each role so well! Just hang on until the end and you the film gives you proper closure!! A+!

When I saw the trailer, I thought "ok, maybe, looks like one to see." I had the chance to watch "The Place Beyond the Pines" last night; and I'm glad I did! Very interesting story, with believable characters, in believable situations! Actions can have consequences, either good or bad, and it can affect others, now or later. I want to talk about this in more detail - but don't want to spoil anything to those deciding weather to see this film. So, I'll leave it to that. I went to a smaller cinema in a smaller auditorium to see it; and wow, it was filled with people!
