The Place Beyond the Pines is an extraordinary, ground breaking movie. The performances, the directing, the cinematography, the music are exceptional. It is an experience not to be missed. Go see it in a theater now and don't wait for the home release. It is a true theatrical event and deserves to be seen on the big screen.

I do not understand why they make movies like this that only portray the most negative aspects of life. Don't bother unless you like feeling miserable.

If the movie had been half as long it still wouldn't have been a good movie, but there would be that much more of my life that hadn't been wasted.

One of the most intricate, emotional dramas I have seen in many years. Yes, I did say drama. With a capital "D." It is so gradually and completely unveiled, piece by piece, that it leaves no question for the viewer unanswered, yet it is like unfolding one layer of filo dough at a time, slowly, delicately, to get to the gift inside without tearing or breaking a single piece. At some point during the 2 1/2 hour film, I found myself thinking, "This is long," with some knowing part of my brain that was quickly silenced by "shhh....just watch." And watch I did, and with complete attention to each and every single scene. It harkens back to the day of the really great mini-series, - "The Thornbirds," - and "Rich Man, Poor Man," in content. This is drama at its best, ripe with tragedy rolled out in a gripping manner. An arguably long film that is like a great new novel you pick up before bed to read a few chapters...but you just can't put it down. Great story. Great acting. 4 stars. See it.

Had high hopes. Love the actors. Love the IDEA of this story... but once the first "big thing" happens it got so dang boring. Snoozer for a good 1/2 of the flick.
