The Placed Beyond the Pines

I thought this movie was well acted. As a Schenectady resident, I enjoyed seeing familiar places in a movie like the bank and Aumiller's pharmacy, etc. The scenes shot out in the woods were beautiful. I thought it was realistic in dealing with past police corruption in Schenectady.I thought the movie was sad and somewhat grueling to watch. It showed that when people make bad choices, they will have to deal with bad consequences. This is a movie for adults, not for children.

When I saw the trailer, I thought "ok, maybe, looks like one to see." I had the chance to watch "The Place Beyond the Pines" last night; and I'm glad I did! Very interesting story, with believable characters, in believable situations! Actions can have consequences, either good or bad, and it can affect others, now or later. I want to talk about this in more detail - but don't want to spoil anything to those deciding weather to see this film. So, I'll leave it to that. I went to a smaller cinema in a smaller auditorium to see it; and wow, it was filled with people!

Hit close to home.

I lost my father back in December, so this Father/Son epic hit pretty close to home. I suggest going in and seeing this movie with no spoilers. It was much more enjoyable and surprising to me, by going in with no expectations or prejudice. If you liked the trailer and planned on seeing it -- GO SEE IT. Great directing. Great actings. Excellent emotion. 9/10.

Really Interesting Story Telling

This review contains a spoiler. Don't continue reading if you don't want me to ruin it for you. I thought it was really interesting how *SPOILER ALERT* Luke dies in the first act and they hold on to the audience's interest in the second act with Avery's storyline and how it all ties up with Luke in the end. What could have helped this film be better is a shorter third act. They go into how Luke and Avery's kids' lives also intertwine in the future and it just becomes too much. I get that the moral of the story is your actions have consequences and those consequences can live on forever. And that we should all try to avoid bad decisions because that can sometimes ruin people's lives. But I personally felt, the story didn't have to go that in depth. Towards the end, I felt it starting to drag on and they should have left it with Luke and Avery's story with a little wrap up of the kids in the end. All in all, I think it was a good film with good acting, directing and story.

Choose something else

terrysigns4u is absolutely correct! The acting is done very well, but the story is so disconnected. You keep waiting for something to build after one event, but then it jumps off to a rabbit trail that doesn't resolve anything. Considering the cast, this was a HUGE disappointment.
