THE PETRIFIED FOREST
Robert E. Sherwood's popular stage play which co-starred Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart on Broadway was trasferred to the screen with the same two stars and adding another - Bette Davis as the winsome desert dweller who works in the diner part of her father's remote filling station. Howard becomes a romantic interest when he shambles into her life shortly before Bogart bursts on the scene as a mad-dog killer on the loose who's being hunted down by the authorities. Very WB stagy, but that adds to its charm. Hokey? YES! A great glimpse into the star power old Humphrey had in the making? MOST DEFINITELY!! Great cast of supporting characters round out the familiar trapping of people being holed up against their will and all teh various complications that ensue. Super entertainment!!
