Slow starter, Stay for the fun !
Number three in the series has some changes, most notibly the absence of the captivating Rachel Weisz. Her replacement takes a while to get comfortable, in the early going she seems strained and awkward, but she settles into a fine job once the action starts, and there's action aplently. She acquits herself well, and the family dynamic is believable and touching when it counts. The uncle, played by John Hannah, is in fine comedic form, over the top from his first scene, and he helps bring the feeling from the other movies along.
Brendan Fraser looks great, not as if it's 13 years after movie #2, and the apparent age difference between him and Luke Ford, who plays the grown up son Alex, seems almost too little. He's at his intimately comic best though, and has a few of his quiet moments of good humor throughout.
Jet Li is not used to full advantage, neither his martial arts skills nor his acting range are used to best effect. Michelle Yeoh is as usual silk over steel.
Good fun.
