Mortal Instruments?? Not Quite

The magic in the book was the relationships between Clary/Simon/Jace/Alec/Magnus. Somehow they didn't really develop in the movie. Jaime Bower didn't seen like Jace to me: too skinny and severe. Valentine was all wrong and they just chopped up the story. Even having read the books (multiple times) I found myself wondering what was happening. Too bad, I really wanted to love it.

Just too far from the book and casting for Jace is horrible

The book(s) are amazing and original. But the beauty of the writing in the books is the author makes you literally "see" the characters and the settings. This actor is about as far from Jace as possible and Clary is supposed to have flaming red hair (she does on the book covers too) - one thing movie producers must remember - the movie has a built in fan base from the book - FOLLOW IT. That includes the cast.

Love the book, love the movie!

This is a must go for all TMI Book Fans. I was leary of the casting as I watched it develop this past year, but after seeing the movie (twice!) I am okay with all but Valentine. He should be this tall, broad shoulder handsome, powerful man, not this skinny, dreadlock evil weasel. Jace won me over. His personality in the movie made up for his looks. Clary's acting was mediocre at best, as was much of the acting. Simon stole the show!!! He was the best part of the movie and I can't wait to see how his character develops as things change... There were many scene changes from the book which is expected but disappointing. Yet despite all of this, I still want to see it again!!! I cannot wait for City of Ashes and the other 4 books! If you have never read the books, read them!!! If you like this genre, you can still enjoy the action, humor, and romance of this movie without reading it, but it is a great read!

Wanted It to Work

Really wanted this movie to work. It had all the pieces but did not transfer to screen correctly and this is always due to the screenplay and not knowing how to take a book to screen period. Someone on the creative team did not understand this. Disappointed. As far as the young actors, they did great. Poor screenplay.

No Edward and Bella, but still the Twilight feel (in a good way)

Has that Twilight feel. It took me a while to warm up to the Twilight series, but once I did, I can say I was hooked. The first installment of The Mortal Instruments took less time to draw me in. I'm interested right from the start. The movie was good, with its even share of drama, romance and action. Excited for part 2!!
