Great movie. They did an awesome job translating the book to movie. If you are a fan of the book series you will definitely be pleased, but I think anyone would enjoy it. Very action packed and very good acting.

Bummed out. I love the book series and re-read City of Bones before going to see the movie. The hype surrounding the movie was tremendous and exciting.
Unfortunately the movie just seemed to jump from one exciting scene of the story to the next with little or no connection or explanation. There was little to no character development and that caused very little investment from me, the audience, and I just didn't really connect or care about the characters because of it.
If I had not read the book, the movie would have made NO SENSE AT ALL. And because I read the book, I knew what was missing but at least I could understand what they were trying to do.
This book just jumped off the page when read and is such a stunningly visual story that I cannot figure out why they couldn't get it translated well in movie form.
So very disappointed!

Absolutely loved this movie. The action is extremely well-done (non-stop and granular), characters are novel and interesting, and the mythology is unique among fantasy movies you have seen. The sets are amazing and the chemistry among the characters is both humorous at times and sexy. Jamie Bower, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Lena Headey, and Robert Sheehan give stand-out performances. will see this one again. Don't listen to the critics, they seem to automatically Hate anything that began as a young adult book. The is like a more grown up Harry Potter mixed with Constantine.

Good entertainment though the ending fizzles. Enjoyed the movie, and liked the characters. Lots of action! Lily Collins did a good job with Clary, though she seemed disconnected in the earliest part of the movie. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers was a very convincing bad guy/psycho. Though we didn't get to see too much of him, Aidan Turner was quite good. CCH Pounder made a convincing witch, but I love her anyway. Some of the special effects used to get rid of her were a bit campy. So anyway, if you like fantasy, witchcraft and other mystical creature movies - this is one of the better ones.
