The first part of the movie went along with the book. But I wondered how anyone could follow it if he/she hadn't read it. The second part was all over the place. Completely scattered story and I found myself looking at the time wondering when it would be over. SIGH. I really wanted this to be great.

Loved the dialogues, jace is everything like in the book, and despite people complaining about magnus amd valentine, I liked them. Really! Hell yeah, valentine looked like a hippie but he was still as crazy as the book!the experiments scenes,REALLY COOL. I liked magnus because he is much better looking than I imagined! And the cat eyes…. oh lord. I’m not going to start on jamie as jace, alec and simon PERFECT acting because I would have to write a book explaining how they got every detail right about the character!!! The girls were great, too.

Cheesy

I have read the first 3 books in the immortal instruments series and I thought maybe introducing it in another medium would help. Sadly, that is not the case, in fact the movie does a better job of highlighting how bad the source material is. The special affects are cheesy and given how they monster, demons, etc. where described in the material; it stands to reason they could have used minimal make-up/effects and still came out looking better. Even worse, the lead characters are a mess: it is hard to imagine Jaime as a swoon worthy lead, not that he does not have an aesthetic appeal, just not THIS leading man appeal. Lily , while beautiful, is a wooden actress who makes Clary seem even more boring than the books. The actor who plays Magnus Bane, and the character itself, were both underused. The only light at the tunnel were Aidan Turner and Robert Sheehan, whose delivery made their charterers. My advice is watch this one on cable or some other platform where $10 won't be wasted.

I've read the books and truly enjoyed the movie, but there were some scenes that should have been scary but I laughed, they were comedic ,I won't mention where. My daughter who is 15 loved it and wants to read the whole series! Thanks Ms Clare

Alright, right off the bat: this is a movie adaptation. One REALLY can't expect it to follow the book to the letter. There were definitely some divergence from the original plot, but the movie itself was just an absolute pleasure to view! Having read the books as they've come out, I had a pretty firm image in my head of what the characters looked like. Of course, the actors they chose and such didn't match the images in my head but I was absolutely fine with that! The actors fit the roles chosen for them and this recreation of the book is wonderfully done. I am pumped for the sequel and will definitely go see this movie again with friends.
