A charming comical opera. Natalie Dessay was unbelievable and she was surrounded by a phenomenal cast. I am hooked on Met Opera live HD.

IT WAS THE FUNNIEST OPERA I HAVE EVER SEEN. THE MUSIC WAS STIRRING . THE SINGING SUPERB AND THE COMIC CHARACTERS HAD THE AUDIENCE LAUGHING SO HARD. AT TIMES I HAD TEARS OF LAUGHTER . IF IT PLAYS AGAIN, GO SEE IT AND TAKE THE KIDS OLD ENOUGH TO READ THE SUBTITLES.

Donizetti for opera fans and all the rest of us

I attended LA FILLE DU REGIMENT staring Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Florez with two friends - both who had seen MET productions 40 years ago [during the height of the "park and bark" period]. They saw "Marie" stand stock still wearing a dress with full crinoline at the back of the regiment of soldiers during her arias. What a huge change in opera to have these phenomenal singing and ACTING artists romp their way through this most exacting [read terrifying to mere mortals] Donizetti. Dessay ironed clothes, threw herself on piles of laundry, peeled potatoes, and totally flew into Florez' arms at one point; she finally saw a dress in the second act. Give yourself and kids the chance to experience great opera. No tears in this one. Definitely a "MUST GO!"

Definitely a fun evening. Great music, acting, costumes, staging - no complaints other than I really dislike the advertising before the show. Far too loud and not at all interesting for most of the audience.
