I was Werther twice. It was a superb performance, especially by the splendid tenor Jonas Kauffman. If you like opera, you'll like this one. Shirley McGreal

What a '"tour d-force" the Metropolitan Opera's restaging of "Werther" is. I enjoyed thiis performance "passionately", without qualification, and could not envision a more artistically complete and musically satisfying interpretation of thie late 19th Century French Romantic Opera interpretation of Goethe's German 18th Century classic, "The Sufferings of the Young Werther". How I agonized for Jonas Kaumann's superb portrayal of the tragic hero, Werther or shared his admiration for and sensual-sexual love for Sophie Koch, the Charlotte of this performance, another stunning young artist, with whom I was, myself, immediatley smitten....right through the HD Screen !. The Met's current Period staging of the work was "spot-on', the inter-scene "special effects" screenshots were perfection, incarnate. The Met orchestra played passionate "point-counterpoint" to the ardent singing and acting on-stage. Columbia Mall AMC's HD screen projection and sound system caputred it all magnificently.

An excellent production with a marvelous cast. The best Werther I ahve had the pleasure to see and hear. Jonas Kaufman was in top form and portrayed a very believable Werther. There wasn't a bad voice in the cast of singers. Especially appreciated was the fact that an audio problem present during the Simulcast was corrected for the Encore presentation. Thank you, whoever!! The Metropolitan Opera broadcasts are a very worthwhile addition to the cultural environment and should be taken advantage of, if at all possible. BRAVO Met!!

Loved the Opera - but the cinema messed up the screening & projection

I absolutely loved the singing, music and staging of "Werther" - I had seen it live at the Met previously & liked it so much that I wanted to see it again at the movies. Unfortunately the cinema completely messed up the screening / projection of the movie. We had multiple patches of no sound for 5-10 minute stretches, or sound but no picture, and the color, contract and brightness settings of the picture were completely off. At times it looked like we were watching a black & white movie. And despite multiple people bringing this to the cinema's attention, very little was done about it. Does not inspire me to go back to this cinema in future.

This was my first try at The Metropolitan Opera in HD. It was excellent. Kaufman was not only a great singer but also a great actor. I recommend it highly. Burt Reyer
