Werther

The opera was well sung, well directed, but in the last 10 minutes of the intense finale the sound went dead. The picture was still playing, but with no sound. This is unthinkable to present an opera with no sound at the end. The emotional climax was nonexistent. Having paid $44.00 for two tickets left me questioning my decision to attend further performances.

Every voice made it perfect. BUT Jonas Kaufmann must be heard. Period. Nothing else might be said. But the setting, acting, directing....all superb. Best Werther I've ever seen or heard. I'm so glad I saw this! Now....we lost simulcast near the end of the third act. That is nearly unforgivable, but the theatre was to both play the sections we missed and refund ticket cost for the inconvenience. Now, that is forgivable and is al high level of service!!!

If you are interested in seeing and hearing an opera - this would be the one to go to! It was AWESOME!! The title role sung by Jonas Kaufmann was stellar! He is unbelievable, the power and strength of his voice, along with his passionate acting! All the singers were great, but Jonas, the lead tenor, was UNsurpassed! I cannot say enough - Be SURE to go to the encore showing this week on Wed. Mar 19th, at 6:30 pm (local time). You will NOT be disappointed! Werther is a timeless tragedy, so be sure to bring a tissue. It is a very moving story of deep love, combined with wonderful scenery and set - and very innovative use of video and film, for special effects! I was impressed with all aspects - costumes, visual, orchestra, singers, the whole package! WERTHER is a WINNER!!! GO FOR IT - - DON'T MISS IT !!! - Andrea in VA

This was wonderful except for the last 10 minutes there was no sound. The most dramatic part of the whole opera. He is dying in his loves arms. The words were up on the screen but there was no sound. I know this was not the theater's fault but it sure was disappointing.

HD failure

This is a superb production and cast. Very strong lyrical performance by Jonas Kaufman, demonstrating why he is one of the finest sought-after tenors today. The Met HD system lost sound in the final 5-6 minutes, which caused the audience to be quite upset, since it was a one-time, live performance.
