tt was a beautiful performance, by everyone, but especially Jonas Kaufmann as Werther. The character of Charlotte was also well defined. It is a very sad opera, but it was made sadder by the fact that the last scene was ruined because the sound went off because of some technical fault.

Everything about this production was fabulous, but the very top award has to go to tenor Jonas Kaufmann. I have been for several decades a "groupie" of Placido Domingo but now that he has practically retired from singing, I am switching to Jonas. In this hyper-romantic opera, he will send shivers up your spine, make you cry, make you believe in his almost impossible character. Effortlessly moving from pianissimo moments of aching tenderness to wrenching full-voice cries of passion and pain. Jonas IS Werther.

The opera was outstanding. The problem occurred at the theater when the sound went off in the final scene of the opera. At the most dramatic moment, we were not able to hear the music. So I hesitate to recommend the Encore if it is the soundtrack from the live production. Warning: the last scene is silent - quite unacceptable for an opera.

Being a BIG Jonas Kaufmann fan - it was not hard for me to love this performance. It was fantastic ! I loved the other singers beside Jonas (who was wonderful) especially Sophie Koch. Great afternoon!!!

Excellent except that the sound went off right in the middle of the climactic final scene, so we could all watch poor Werther die, but couldn't hear the music. Sound came back on just as the curtain fell!
