If you like opera and can't make it to Metropolitan - it's definitely a wonderful; experience.
The opera is very good, not as "heavy" as other Verdy. The cast is amazing. You should go.

A great opera with a wonderful cast. Unfortunately, it had a director who seemed more interested in calling attention to himself than in letting the opera and cast do their thing. The first two acts were distracting because of what the director made the cast do. The last two acts, however were riveting; the splendor of the cast and the opera itself took over and it was a very moving and wonderful experience. The movie direction, as always with the Met HD productions, was excellent.

The Met is continuing to improve on its casting and productions. Everyone seemed to enjoy this production. Changing the era worked very nicely; acting and singing great.
The theater was a bit chilly. The person in charge was very nice and helpful to all.

Great cast/chemistry. Wonderful example of simultaneous ensemble singing. Amasing set design and coreography.
Although it gets "dark" -- doesn't all Verdi -- something yougsters could enjoy.

I am a regular opera-goer, long-time holder of a subscription at the Met. Their new production of Ballo is wonderful, the cast could not have been better. While I don't always enjoy updated operas, this production proved to be beyond expectation and totally relavant. The direction and set design were amazing and enhanced Verdi's gorgeous score. However, there was a techinical glitch with the sound the last 5 or so minutes of the first act and through the intermission interviews which I really wanted to hear. It was playing in another theatre in the same venue which did not have the problem so it was obviously not the feed. That was the only disappointment of the afternoon.
