In the many years that I have been going to the Met (both live in NY and HD in theaters), this was one of the finest productions in every aspect that I have ever witnessed. I think it is destined to become one of the greatest of contemporary operas. The cast, especially Simon Keenlyside, from top to bottom was first rate, and the production brilliant.

Brilliant, beautiful, a bit eccentric production of "The Tempest," adapted from Shakespeare's play (not an easy job!) -- excellent singing (though Ariel's highest notes were a bit hard on the ears at times -- not off-key, just extremely high in the soprano range) and acting throughout. Imaginative costumes, especially for Ariel, Prospero, and Caliban. I would encourage people who didn't see the "live" showing to see the encore showing, whenever that is going to run.

The Tempest was magnificent. This new production was at first not easy to like. There are few melodies and no easy refrains. However, it draws you in with outstanding performances, haunting music and a great story. I loved it. Seeing it on the screen instead of live had advantages including backstage interviews and views of scenery changes. It was also nice to casually have a little snack and drink a bottle of water at your seat. I'm looking forward to the rest of the Met Opera series.
