Having attended most met broadcasts over the past five years, I thought that this was one of the best. The staging was remarkable, the acting and singing were wonderful, the story is funny and the music is beautiful.

It was theater in the absurd, and as such I "got" it. I found the character searching for his nose while sporting a healthy, Roman nose disconcerting. The shadow nose was clever and its foray into 'doing its own thing' delightful.

Brilliant, memorable and not to be forgotten!!! Production, directing, and moving screens as backdrops -- all by world-renowned South African artist and director, William Kentridge -- are unique and exciting. Singing (and acting) led by Brazilian Paulo Szot and a sensational chorus match!!!

The artwork and graphics are glorious and make the movie worth seeing. But I didn't love the music and the story, by Gogol, is pretty preposterous. But its a lot of fun and the voices are truly spectacular.

Sorry, not my cup o' tea. Maybe I was just in a bad mood. Theater didn't open until 15 minutes after starting time. No explanation, no apology. Just late. Then the satellite feed was lousy for another 30 minutes-red monochrome with wavy horizontal lines. Not good. And the opera? Well, the Met should have put this one on the shelf and done Norma with Sondra Radvanovsky.
