The Nose

I was rather disappointed in this simulcast. I felt like I was watching a Chaplinesque comedy of the man chasing his nose. The singing was superb, but the content and the music were not my cup of tea.

Visually very modern and unique to match very odd, for lack of better word, piece of music. No intermission.

I like Shostakovich's music; the staging of the opera was superb as were the singers. My wife didn't care for it, viz. no melodies. It is Theatre of the Absurd. So be it. My friends who were with us were not impressed.

Don't bother with this tuneless bore. Even the Met Opera couldn't save it.

These Met broadcasts are first rate, and this was one of the best. It was a great treat to see a rarely done opera done well.
